R00-158RESOLUTION R00-158 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE EDUCATION ADVISORY BOARD CONCERNING SCHOOL ISSUES AND MORE PARTICULARLY WITH REGARD TO BOUNDARIES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Whereas, The City of Boynton Beach has an Education Advisory Board composed of citizens to study and provide recommendations to the City Commission concerning school issues as they relate to our city; and Whereas, over the past several months, the Education Advisory Board has analyzed the proposed boundary changes for our local schools, held community forums and workshops in conjunction with the Boynton Forum, Family and Friends Network, and collected input l~om parents, students and residents about our communities concerns on this important topic of school boundaries; and Whereas, our entire city will feel the impact of the school boundary decision educationally, socially, and economically; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, does hereby support the recommendations brought forward by the Education Advisory Board as attached (Exhibit A); Section 2. In addition to the recommendations put forward by the Education Advisory Board the City Commission supports the concept that all students that reside within the city limits of Boynton Beach should have access to the new Boynton Beach Community High School through boundary changes or by a "choice" plan to opt in or out. Section 3. The City Commission supports the shifting of proposed boundaries as attached for Congress Middle School to allow the surrounding neighborhoods already attending Congress to remain there; _ Section 4. The City Commission supports the shifting of boundaries as attached for Galaxy Elementary and specifically supports a gifted cluster be moved to Galaxy, a Pre-K program initiated; and the immediate remodeling and modernization of Galaxy Elementary; Section 5. The City Commission supports the shifting of boundaries for Forest Park as attached so that surrounding neighborhoods can attend; Section 6. The City Commission supports the remodeling and modernization of Rolling Green to be started as soon as possible. Section 7. That this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.
