Advisory Board Minutes
February 28, 2001
Present: Board members: Betty Boroni, Marva Collins, Marion Grammer, Dan Holthouse,
Alice Otis, Valerie Pleasanton, Dorothy Walker, and alternate .ludy Sanders.
Library Director: Virginia Farace.
1. Chair Valerie Pleasanton called the meeting to order at 3:27 P.M.
2. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved with corrections to the
spelling of Boroni and Grammer.
3. Correspondence: The Chair reported that she sent Commissioner Black a thank you
letter for the $5000 donation to the library from his commissioner's discretionary
budget.
4. Chairs Report: None
5. Unfinished Business:
C:[P - Planning & Grant
Virginia reported that the City Commission approved moving forward with the
state grant application this year. She showed a Gantt chart listing the tasks that need to
be accomplished in the application process and explained the progress made to date.
All is moving forward on schedule toward the April 1 deadline for submittal.
Black Awareness Month
Dorothy Walker spoke about Black History Month and the/Iff/can-American Book
£/u/~'s participation in activities. She reported on the success of the book donation drive.
Free book distribution to promote reading took place on February 24th at Hester Center
along with Library card registration. The self-directed tour of the library for families is
continuing through April and will end on May 5 with another book giveaway before and
after the Book Club's Poetry Jam. Dorothy wrote a letter of appreciation to the Library
Director citing the wonderful cooperation of the library staff. She sent personal thank
you letters to Patricia Mooar, .lames Shelton, A.D. Henehan, and Betty Fullerton.
6. New Business:

7. Director's Report:
1.5-FA Grant- A.D. Henehan gave an update on the computer-training grant for
Senior and Hester Centers. The project is moving along.
School Boundaries- All boundary changes have been approved, including the
compromise for Congress Middle School.
GAb4 - Virginia reminded everyone of the dates for GALA - March 16, 17, & 18.
(2uilt Show- Virginia encouraged attendance at the upcoming Library quilters'
quilt Show to be held at the Woman's Club on March 30, 31, and April 1.
7. Announcements
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at 3:15 PM in the
program room.
