Advisory Board Minutes
3anuary 24, 2001
Present: Board members: Betty Boroni, Marva Collins, Marion Grammer, Dan Holthouse,
Alice Otis, Valerie Pleasanton, Dorothy Walker, and alternate Judy Sanders.
Library Director: Virginia Farace.
Chair Valerie Pleasanton called the meeting to order at 3:17 P.M.
2. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
3. Notification by the City Commission that Dan Holthouse was appointed to serve as a
regular board member.
4. Chairs Report: None
5. Unfinished Business:
CTP - Planning & Grant
Grant for library construction plan was discussed. Deadline for application is April
1. Application procedures and information necessary in order to fill out application was
reviewed. Board members were asked to give input and recommendations on grant.
Motion made that the Board recommends to the City Commission that we move forward
with CTP grant this year. Motion approved with one dissention - Alice Otis felt we should
wait until next year in order to have more time to work on the grant application.

None
7. Director's Report:
ComrnissionerBlack's Donation- Bruce Black donated funds ($5,000)
to library to purchase books from his special assessment fund. Chair agreed to
write thank you to Commissioner Black.
LSTA Grant- A.D. Henehan discussed computer-training grant for Senior and
Hester Centers. Equipment is on order. Request for Internet hookup and training
for seniors and youth discussed. Computers can not be used unless patron has a
library card. Location for computers is Hester Center and Senior Center.
Security Update- Security system is now installed. Security person is now on
staff. New security guard, Art Geiman, gave a security update.
School Boundaries- All boundaries have been approved, except for middle
school. Congress Middle School boundary is still not finalized.
Staff Update- Teresa Rodriguez has been hired as full-time Library Assistant.
BookFest- Event will take place the first weekend in February at the Greenacres
Community Center.
Aft~can-American Book Club- Dorothy Walker spoke about Black History Month
and the Book Club's participation in activities. She asked for book donations from
the Board and the community. Free book distribution to promote reading will
take place on February 24m at Hester Center. Library card ,registration and tour
of the library for families is encouraged. On February 3f 2001 at 12:30PM Author
Fannie Adkins will be the guest author at Family Story Hour in the library.
7. Announcements
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2001, at 3:15 PM in
the program room.
