84-NNNA RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, ADOPTING
THE PALM BEACH COUNTY PEACETIME EMERGENCY
PLAN, DESIGNATING THE CITY MANAGER AS THE
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR OF THE CITY
OF BOYNTON BEACH, ESTABLISHING AN EMERGENCY
PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE, RESCINDING PREVIOUS
CIVIL DEFENSE AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
RESOLUTIONS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, safeguarding the life and property of its
citizens is an innate responsibility of the governing body of
every local government; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida, Department of Community
Affairs, Division of Emergency Management is responsible for
assisting and coordinating local government emergency management
activities, and encourages coordination between municipalities
and their respective county emergency management agencies; and
WHEREAS, the Palm Beach County, Division of Emergency
Management, Peacetime Emergency Plan has been recently revised
and duly adopted in accordance with Chapter 252, Florida
Statutes, the "State Emergency Management Act";and
WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach has in effect a
Mutual Aid Agreement with Palm Beach County which provides for
federal disaster relief eligibility; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager directs the preemergency
preparedness and postemergency response efforts of the City on
behalf of the City Council of the City of Boynton Beach, and is
assisted in these efforts by a Staff committee of selected
departmental personnel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida, does hereby adopt the Palm Beach County Peacetime
Emergency Plan, as applicable, as the basis for its emergency
management activities.
Section 2: That the City Manager of the City of Boynton
Beach is hereby designated the Emergency Management Director for
the City, subject to the overall supervision and direction of the
City Council.
Section 3: That an Emergency Preparedness Committee is
hereby established for the purpose of assisting the City Manager/
Emergency Management Director in carrying out the emergency manag~
ment activities of the City of Boynton Beach.
Section 4: That previous Resolutions of the City of
Boynton Beach pertaining to Civil Defense, Disaster Preparedness
and Emergency Operations are hereby superseded and rescinded.
Section 5: That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded
to the Director, Palm Beach County, Division of Emergency
Management.
