NOW THER_~?ORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FIORIDA:
That Rule XI, "General Personnel Policies and Provisions,
Section 4. Sick Leave, Paragraph 2 and Section 3. Vacation Leave"
of the Boynton Beach Civil Service Rules and Regulations is hereby
amended to read per the attached hereto and made a part hereof.
That this will be effective September 29, 1983.

SECTION 4. (2nd Paragraph)
Sick leave shall not be considered as a right which an employee may use at his
discretion, but rather as a privilege which shall be allowed only in case of
personal, sickness or disability, legal quarantine because of exposure to
contaqious disease or in the case of illness within the immediate family. No
more ~an five working days in any calendar year maybe taken as sick leave because
of illness within the immediate family. In the case of a prolonged, serious
illness within the family an employee must take more family sick time it must be
approved by the department head, personnel director and city manager and a doctol's
letter must be submitted. For purposes of this rule "immediate family" shall
consist of the employee's spouse, parents and children only. Sick leave will not
be granted if it falls on regular days off or on a holiday.

SECTION 3. VACATION LEAVE: Each full time employee, 'with the
exception of shift members of the Fire Department and any other
members of a bargaining unit, shall earn vacation leave at the
rate of one working day per month during the first year of service.
Each employee shall, at the end of each year thereafter, be credited
~with additional vacation days (accumulated in hours) for each full
year of continuous service as outlined in the chart below, but no
additional credi~ Shall be earned after his Or her 21st year of
service. Employlees on initial one year probation are not eligible
to take vacation for-the first six months of .employment. This
vacation schedulie will take effect on September 29.~.1983 and
employees eligibile will accrue such leave time at the new rate
after adoption.

For purposes of vacation leave, each shift member of the Fire
Department shall receive the equivalent of six (6) shift days per
year vacation. Each shift member of the Fire Department shall
earn one (1) shift day additional vacation for each four years of
continuous service, but no additional credit shall be earned after
his sixteenth (16) year of service.
In computing vacation leave earned, no increments will accrue for
any pay week 'which includes three or more day~ of leave of absence
without pay. For uniformed members of the Fire Department no
increments will accrue for any 3 week pay period which includes
four or more days of leave of absence without pay, or the appropriate
percentage of the pay period.

VACATION LEAVE - Continued
Vacation leave may be taken as earned subject to the approval of
the department head who shall schedule vacations so as to meet
the operating requirements of the department.
Employees may accrue vacation leave to a maximum of the leave
earned in the most recent two employment years.
Provisional employees shall be entitled to the same vacation leave
allowance to which regular employees are entitled in accordance
'with the provisions of this section, provided they attain probation-
ary status.
Regular employees and the aforesaid probationary employees 'who upon
leaving the City's service in good standing shall be compensated
for vacation leave accrued to the date of separation.
In computing vacation taken, all employees shall be charged one
(1) hour leave for each hour not worked.
