The duties and responsibilities of the positions of Gof Course ~,~intenance Foreman and Golf Course Equipment Mechanic are hereby adopted and shall be in accordance with the job descriptions attached hereto and made a part hereof. Section 2. That the position of Golf Course ~intenance Foreman shall be at Pay Grade ~ ~. The position of Golf Course Equipment Mechanic shall be at Pay Grade ~/ . ATTEST Corporate Seal GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE FOREMAN NATURE OF WORK This is skilled technical and supervisory work involving golf course grounds development, care and maintenance. Work involves the care and maintenance of automatic irrigation system and general golf course grounds. Work of this class involves diCect- ion and participation for planning, assigning and supervising the activities of golf course maintenance personnel. Work requires the use of fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides, including skill in the planting, watering, care and treatment of various types of grasses, trees, shrubberies and other vegetation common to local and regional golf courses. Work also includes responsibility for the operation, care and upkeep of the automatic irrigation system along with all its appurtinent, equipment and machinery. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policies and general instructions from the Super- intendent, however, requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment based upon experience and technical knowledge. Work is 'reviewed through observation, inspection and conferences. ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS (Note: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in this classification. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this position.) Plans, schedules, supervises and revie'ws the work of employees engaged in the maintenance and care of golf course greens, fairways, roughs, trees and plants, including the preservation of golf course grounds in playing condition. ~ Supervises and participates in the preparation and application of fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides used for the control of plant pests and diseases. Maintains and repairs pipes, lines and sprinkler heads associated with golf course irrigation system. Ensures that watering schedule for tees, greens, and fairways is maintained according to established guidelines. Assists in installations a~d placement of sprinkler heads and valves; performs scheduled rotation of apparatus for maximum efficiency and effectiveness; maintains proper water pressure and pump action. Periodically inspects equipment for required repairs and/or replacement. Determines work priorities, assigns workers to specific tasks, and participates in the more difficult and complex tasks. Enforces safety standards and regulations; instructs and trains personnel in the proper handling and application of chemicals to insure the safety of wildlife, property, general public and employees. GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE FORE,MAN - continued ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS - continued Maintains necessary activity records, and requisitions equipment, materials and supplies. Operates, maintains, and repairs a complex irrigation system, including leaks in distribution lines, valves, and risers. Repairs control lines and sprinkler heads. Maintains and repairs the master and satellite controllers. Operates and maintains the well and pumping station. Periodically inspects the various components of the irrigation s~stem to insure that they are operating properly. Performs related work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in golf course maintenance, with special emphasis on fine turf mainten- ance. considerable knowledge of planting, watering, fertilizing, draining and mowing of golf course gMunds. Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques of the transportation, preparation, and application of chemicals used for the control of plant pests and diseases. Considerable knowiedge of the hazards involved and safety precautions of the work. Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and of various types of pumps and pumping system. Ability to organize, supervise, train and evaluate subordinate personnel. Ability to maintain accurate golf course maintenance records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by the work. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing[ ~ DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Graduation from a standard high school supplemented by the completion of recognized courses in horticulture, agronomy and landscape archi- tecture. Considerable experience in maintenance of automatic irrigation systems used on golf courses or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Certified as a Public Applicator by the State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to purchase and use restricted pest- icides pursuant to Chapter 487 Florida Statutes. Possession of a valid State of Florida chauffeur's license at the time of appointment. GOLF COURSE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC NATURE OF WORK This is skilled Work at a journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-Powered equipment. Employees in this class perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of vehicles both gasoline'~and diesel as well as other related equip- ment used a~ the municipal golf course. Employee works under the general supervision of the Superintendent or his designate using independent judgment as Go the method of repair after receiving oral or written instruction as to the nature of the work to be done and is reviewed for acceptability in progress and upon completion. ILLUSTRATiVE~ TASKS (NOte: These are intended only as i!lu~trations of the various types of work performed in this classification. Inspects, adjusts, diagnosis, and repairs mechanical defects, in the many typesJ of golf course maintenance equipment. Does mower grinding/ sharpening. Performs general overhaul of motors. Repairs transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, hydraulic systems, and high- pressure p~m~s and valves. Installs and adjusts brakes. Installs batteries, tires, wiring, and glass. Does machining or welding' work in making fittings used in automotive equipment. DoeS occasional auto- motive equipment. Does occasional automotive painting or body and fender repair work. Maintains records of preventive maintenance, repairs made, orders, and time worked. KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Considerable k~owiedge of the practices, methods, tools and materials used in the maintenance and repair of automotive, maintenance and related equipment; considerable knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines, and of mechanical components of auto- motive, maintenance and related equipment; considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of equipment repair work; skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in the maintenace and repair of automotive, maintenance and related equipment; ability to perform manual labor associated with major mechanical repair work; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. ~6LF COURSE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC - continued DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school graduation supplemented by technical training in diesel and/or automotive or truck mechanic trades and experience in auto- motive or truck repair and maintenance work; or any cc~bination of training and experience which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
