BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The duties and responsibilities of the position
of Golf Course Superintendent are hereby adopted and shall be in
accordance with the job description attached hereto and irade a part
hereof.
Section 2. That this position of Golf Course Superintendent
shall be at Pay Grade 34.

NATURE OF WORK
Entrusted with the development and management of a golf course. The
responsibilities are to supervise the. construction and maintenance of the
dlf couj.~se,_ ,to supe.rvise the servicing and repair of turfgrass maintenance
consrn~acr~on equmpment, to keep appropriate records and to prepare budgets
and reports. ~rk is performed under the general supervision of the Golf Course
Manager.

Plans, organizes and directs the construction of putting greens, tees, fai~ys,
roughs, and b%~erS. Supervises the maintenance of putting greens, tees, fairways,
roughs, bunkers and related areas. Supervises the planting and cultural practices
involved ~_n growing various turfgrasses, trees and ornam~l Dtants. Supervises
the efficient operation of an equipment service and repair sho~. Procures supplies
and materials within budgetary limitations. Keeps records of annual maintenance
activities mhd costs. Prepares and presents the annual golf course maintenance
budget. Participates in interviewing, hiring and discharqe of employees. Performs.
related work as reguired. -
~NO~V. ~EDGE, ABILITY AND SKILLS
Thorough ~Iedge of the construction, establishment and maintenance practices
employed or: golf course putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers;
planting and ~alture of turfgrasses used on golf courses; the planting, cultivating,
and pruning of ornamental plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and'proper
use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; pest control methods and
mterials; drainage methods; and watering practices and irrigation system~, including
wells, p~ps and automatic controls.
Knowledge of construction and maintenance of the maintenance facility, shelters,
fences, bridges,, golf cart paths, service roads, parking lotS ~ ponds ~nd streams.
Thorough knowledge of safety standards and practices.
Ability to train, motivate and effectively direct, throught his designees, the work
of employees Ln a safe, efficient manner; procure, maintain an inventory of and
supervise the proper use of chemicals, pesticides, parts, materials and supplies;
prepare clear, concise reports; prepare annual budget estimates and execute the
authorized expenditures; keep needed records relating to expenditures, payrolls,
personnel, operations, equipment, chemicals, weather, and safety, and maintain
effective ~Tployee. and public relations.
DESIRABLE ~--~:PERTENCE A.ND TRAIN/NG
A degree in agronomy/horticulture/plant/soil sciences desired, or ecmiva!ent
knowledge. ~
Experience in all phases of golf course management and turf culture. Certified
and/or licensed in pesticide usage. Participating knowledge of the ~ame of golf.
Current, valid, Florida chauffeur's license. ~
