THE JOB DESCRIPTION FOR GOLF COURSE
MANAGER AND MAKING IT A PART OF THE CITY'S
PAY PLAN
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The duties and responsibilities of the
position of Golf Course Manager are hereby adopted and shall
be in accordance ~with the job description attached hereto
and made a part hereof.
Section 2. That this position of Golf Course
Manager shall be at Pay Grade 37.

GOLF COURSE MANAGER
NATURE OF WORK
This is highly responsible, professional and administrative work
in directing the overall operations of a City golf course and its
related facilities. The position is directly responsible to the City
Manager and directly supervises all golf course activities.
The employee in this class performs highly responsible management
work in directing the activities and programs of the golf professional,
greenskeeping and course maintenance, the operation of concessions and
related activities. This employee is also responsible for establishing
and enforcing operating policies for the golf course, pro-shop, snack
bar and other concessions.
General supervision is received from the City Manager, 'who reivews
and approves plans and procedures to determine the quality and effic-
iency of operations and service to the public.
ILLUSTP2~TIVE TASKS
(NOTE: These are intended only as illustrations of the various

the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this position.)
Proposes and enforces all rules and regulations for the golf
course.
In accordance with City centralized purchasing procedures, 'prepares
specifications for golf course purchases and contracts for golf carts
and snack bar concessions.
In accordance with City Finance Department procedures, insures
maintenance of accurate cash and sales records and fee collections.
Compiles a proposed annual operating and capital budget estimates
for submission to the City Manager. Prepares and §ubmits,-to the.Cf~y
Manager, reports of golf course activities.
Conducts analysis to determine operational efficiency in relation
to customer satisfaction; analyzes and recommends alternative methods
and practices to increase sales through customer use; resolves customer
complaints.
Maintains daily, weekly and monthly attendance, activity and
accomplishment reports plus any others periodically assigned.
Supervises the collection of green fees, -cart fees, membership
fees, rental fees and concessionaire fees.
Responsible for composition of cash reports and delivery of all
monies collected to City Hall cashiers office as scheduled.
Responsible for determining, preparing and submitting operational
budget reqfuirements and requests at appropriate times.
Responsible for determining condition of all capital equipment and
if necessary submit capital outlay budget requests at appropriate times.
~Hires~ supervises and disciplines all facilitY personnel accord-
ing t~ City Policy and Procedures.
Supervises and coordinates concession contracts, annual service
agreements~, etc.
Coordinates with Greens Superintendent as to scheduling of large
maintenance projects (verticutting, fertilizing, seeding, etc.) to
avoid conflicts, especially during peak usage periods during the year.
Coordinates with Greens Superintendent as to the ordering of
· course maintenance supplies, ie: fertilizer, top soil, sand, parts for
equipment, etc.
Implements and supervises programs and tournaments at the course
during slack periods and promotes activity for the facility in any
manner possible.
Must have ability to change long range plans on short notice due
to inclimate weather conditions.
Directly responsible to the City Manager for the performance of
his duties.
Studies schedules, charts, reports, etc. and initiates activities
for better utilization of golf course and facilities.
Decides with Greens Superintendent whether course is playable due
to weather and closes course if necessary.
Responsible for the scheduling of school golf teams which may
request the use of facility and promote youth golf.
Have knowledge of first aid and be able to react to an emergency
situation.
Display complete knowledge of golf course rules and etiquette.
Performs related work as required by the City Manager.
Continually promotes good public relations.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of golf course and clubhouse management
techniques and practices.
Considerable knowledge of budgetary accounting and practices
and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of golf course maintenance requirements,
methods and equipment.
Ability to co~ununicate effectively orally and in writing.
Considerable knowledge of methods, tools and euqipment required
to maintain a golf course.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with City
Officials and employees; golfers and golf association members and
the general public.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited college or university and three
years responsible administrative experience in the operation of a
golf course or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
