CiTY OF BOYNTON BEACH~ FLORIDA ADOPTING
THE JOB DESCRIPTION FOR EQUIPMENT
OPERATOR IV/TV SPECIALIST AND MAKING IT A
PART OF THE CITY'S PAY PLAN
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BOYNTON BEACH~ FLORIDA:
Section le The duties and responsibilities of the
position of Equipment Operator IV/TV Specialist are hereby
adopted and shall be in accordance with the job description
attached hereto and made a part hereof.
Section 2. That this position of Equipment
Operator IV/TV Specialist shall be at Pay Grade 24.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IV/TV SPECIALIST
This is skilled work in the operation of a T.V./Sea! Truck Mounted System. The empl~£ee
assigned to this ~osition is primarily responsible to inspect the inside of pipes used in the
wastewazer ~ystem to check both new and old installations. If any damage is found (cracks,
breaks, leaks, etc.) The T.V. Specialist will determine if the line can be reD ' =
~alr~d by normal
grouting procedures and repair if possible. If the damaged line is beyond normal grouting
procedure, the necessary information will be reported to the supervisor so that other repair
means can proceed. The T.V. Specialist will report to. the Utility Director or his designate.
Assignments are received in oral or written form and work is subject to fre~uen~ review and
inspection by his supervisor. -
TASKS
(NOTE: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types .of work performed

from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment for this position.)
Operates video truck.
Receives projects zo be inspected each day and plans the methods and procedures to be
followed.
Sets u~ and opera~es the television equipment and related recording devices.
Interprets the data being recorded in each project and reports findings so that repairs
or replacements can be made.
Directs the efforts of the crew that operates the "jet truck" when this equipment is
needed to assist ih the video inspection of the sewer gravity lines.
Performs weekly preventative maintenance of the truck and all equipment and troubleshoots
these if a problem should occur.
Reads blueprints and city maps and sewer atlas to locate manholes and laterals prior to
going into the field.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
KN~'~EDGE, ABILITY_ AND SKILI~
Knowledge of departmental goals.
Kn~#ledge of video equipmenz including those components and functions used in insoecting
a sewer neLwork. -
Knowledge of various~recording and metering devices.
Knowledge of winches and their operation.
Knowledge of the basic operation-of a gravity fed'sewer network and how to interpret the
information returned to the monitors from the television camera. Knowledge of the basic functions of a "jet" truck.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, sewer atlas and maps.
Ability to prepame written reports based upon data interpretation.
Knowledge of the Department Safety Standards.
Ability to record on standard work sheets what was found and determination as to the
degree of damage, etc. plus the ability to catalog the video tape recordings of the damaged
sections of sewers.
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustment to and service heavy equipment.
Skilled in the operation of heavy and specialized automotive and related equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with f~llow employees
and the general public.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Experience in the operation of video equipment relazive to transmission line inspections
and graduation from a standard high school or any equivalent combination of experience and
training.
Must possess a currenz valid Florida Chauffeurs license.
