THE JOB DESCRIPTION FOR LIBRARIAN III
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON
BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1: The duties and responsib~ilities of the
position of Librarian III 'are hereby adopted: and shall be in
accordance with the ~job description attached hereto and made a
part hereof at pay grade 26.

LIBRARIAN III
NATURE OF WORK
This is administrative and supervisory work in directing and participating
in a prescribed funciom of the library.
Work involves responsibility for directing the activities of that function
of the library. Work is performed under the general guidance of the Library
Director. Beyond %his the employee directs and coordinates the work of sub-
ordinates in the performance of library and clerical functions.
ILLUSTRATIVE TAS~
Responsibility for library functions; recommends policies and carries out
policies of general supervision of personnel.
Attends meetings and keeps informed of developments in the profession.
Supervises and assists in cataloging and classifying of books; aids as
necessary at circulation desk in changing and discharging of books and borrower
registration. Acting as reader's advisor.
May be responsible for organizing and zmtzraing programs.
Answering catalog and general information questions.
Perform~ related work as required.
KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKTT,Y~
Considerable knowledge of library practices and procedures.
Knowledge of books of the type in demand from users of the library.
Considerable knowledge of modern business practices.
Abilizy zo develop and presen~ to the public, related library services
information.
AbilizY to plan, assign, direct and review the activities of a library.
Ability to determine books, periodicals and magazines to be purchased or
subscribed to; ability to prepare emnual budgez.
DESIRAB~ EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
One year experience in library services or amy equivalent combination of
experience and zraining.
Graduate degree in Library Science from an American LibraryAssocmatmon' '
accredited school plus ~year~experience as a professional Librarian.
