R25-094 2 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON 4 BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING NAMING THE ENTRY ROAD TO 5 BOYNTON BEACH HIGH SCHOOL AS "LAMAR JACKSON WAY" IN 6 HONOR OF BOYNTON BEACH HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNUS LAMAR 7 JACKSON FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENTS AND 8 CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY; AND FOR ALL OTHER 9 PURPOSES. 10 11 WHEREAS, Lamar Jackson, a Boynton Beach High School graduate, has distinguished 12 himself as one of the most successful athletes to emerge from our community. Since graduating, 13 Jackson has achieved remarkable success, including winning the Heisman Trophy while at the 14 University of Louisville and being named the National Football League's Most Valuable Player 15 twice during his professional career with the Baltimore Ravens; and in WHEREAS, this proposal seeks to honor Mr. Jackson's achievements by naming the entry 17 road to Boynton Beach High School as "Lamar Jackson Way." The naming would recognize his 18 significant accomplishments while also inspiring current and future students of Boynton Beach 19 High School; and 20 WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-22 of the City Code regarding the Policy for 21 Naming City Facilities, this request meets multiple criteria for consideration: 22 • It honors a person of cultural significance to the community 23 • It recognizes an individual particularly identified with the facility (as an alumnus) 24 • It reinforces community values and character of the area; and 25 WHEREAS, the City Manager authorized the formation of the advisory committee as 26 required by Section 2-22(e) of the City Code. The committee has reviewed the proposal and finds 27 it meets all criteria outlined in the Policy for Naming City Facilities. Public input has been received 28 through the advisory committee process, and the committee recommends approval of this 29 naming resolution; and 30 WHEREAS, the City Commission, upon the recommendation of staff, has deemed it in the 31 best interests of the city's citizens and residents to approve naming the entry road to Boynton 32 Beach High School as "Lamar Jackson Way" in honor of Boynton Beach High School alumnus 33 Lamar Jackson for his outstanding athletic achievements and contributions to the community. 34 35 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON 36 BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: 37 SECTION 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as 38 being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption. 39 SECTION 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, does hereby 40 approve naming the entry road to Boynton Beach High School as "Lamar Jackson Way" in honor 41 of Boynton Beach High School alumni Lamar Jackson for his outstanding athletic achievements 42 and contributions to the community. 43 SECTION 3. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, hereby 44 authorizes the Mayor to execute any ancillary as may be necessary to accomplish the purpose of 45 this Resolution. 46 SECTION 4.
