A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON
2 BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING THE CITY'S
3 APPLICATION FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2025 EDWARD BYRNE
4 MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) IN THE AMOUNT OF
5 $28,243.00, AND IF AWARDED, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ACCEPT
6 THE GRANT AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN ALL
7 DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE GRANT, SUBJECT TO REVIEW BY
8 THE CITY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE; AND FOR ALL OTHER PURPOSES.

10 WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and Bureau of
11 Justice Assistance seeks applications for formula funding to provide additional personnel,
12 equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems
13 for criminal justice or civil proceedings to states to support a range of program areas under the
14 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant ("JAG") Program; and
15 WHEREAS,the Bureau of Justice Assistance seeks to award Edward Byrne Memorial Justice
16 Assistance Grant Program funds to eligible units of local government; and
17 WHEREAS, the Boynton Beach Police Department is applying for the Fiscal Year 2025
18 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. If awarded, the funding will support
19 the continuation of Year 2 of the department's Guardian and AXON AIR programs; and
20 WHEREAS, the department continues to face increasing demands for rapid response,
21 enhanced situational awareness, and real-time intelligence during critical incidents, including
22 missing persons cases, fleeing suspects, large-scale public events, and emergency response
23 situations. Without advanced aerial and monitoring technologies, officers may be required to
24 enter high-risk environments with limited visibility, increasing potential safety risks and reducing
25 operational effectiveness; and
26 WHEREAS, additionally, the growing reliance on digital evidence in criminal investigations
27 requires secure, scalable, and compliant storage solutions. This grant will allow the department to
28 sustain and expand its use of these technologies, ensuring continuity of operations and alignment
29 with modern policing practices; and
30 WHEREAS, the City Commission, upon the recommendation of staff, has deemed it in the
31 best interests of the City's citizens and residents to authorize and approve the city's application
32 for the Fiscal Year 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of

33 $28,243.00, and if awarded, authorize the City to accept the Grant and authorize the Mayor to
34 sign all documents associated with the grant, subject to review by the City Attorney's office.

36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON
37 BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
38 SECTION 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as
39 being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption.
40 SECTION 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, does hereby
41 approve the city's application for the Fiscal Year 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance
42 Grant in the amount of $28,243.00, and if awarded, authorize the City to accept the Grant.
43 SECTION 3. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, does hereby
44 authorize the Mayor to execute the Grant application, Grant Agreement, and any other documents
45 associated with applying for and accepting the Grant that do not otherwise increase the financial
46 obligations of the City, subject to the review of the City Attorney's Office.
47 SECTION 4. This Resolution shall take effect in accordance with the law.
