Registrations ~nd Elections.
Sec. 1. No person shall be entitled to vote at any
annaul election held under the Charter of this Town who
shall not have registered with the Town Clerk at least
ten days prior to such election, but this shall not re-
quire an annual registration. U~enever an elector shall
have registered, his or her name shall remsin on the re-
gistration list until er~ased by the Town Commission as
hereinafter provided. Provided, that for any special elec-
tion to be held in the year 1921, any elector may register
at any time prior to the day of such special election.
Sec. 2. Any person may vote at any special election,
who shall have registered for the next preceding annual
election, or who shall have registered for suda special
election.
Sec. 3. The Clerk shall open such registration book
at least thirty days before any annaul or special election,
and shall keep the book open at some convenient place with-
in the Town each day from eight o'clock A. N. to eight
o'clock P. ~. up to ten days prior to the election day,
but this shall not apply to any special election to be
held in the year 1921.
Sec. ~. Upon appli~.~ation for registration each elec-
tor shall be required to take and subscribe the following
oath: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will pro-
tect and defend the Constitution of the United States and
of the State of ~lorida; that I am ~venty-one years of age
and have been a resident of the State of Florida for
twelve months, and of this Town for six months; that I am
a citizen of the United States, and that I am qualified to
vote under the Constitution and laws of the State of Florida,,
The Clerk is hereby authorized and required to administer
this oath, and the voter shall also be required, under oath
to be administered by the Clerk, to give suda description
of himself as will be sufficient to clearly indentify his
or her person with the act of registration. This oath
shall be varied for registration during 1921 so that resi-
dence within the Town beginning ~'~ith the date of its incor-
poration, shall be sufficient.
Sec. 5. ~daenever any elector shall register, the
Clerk shall issue to him ~ her a registration certifi-
cate in substantially the same form as used by the County
Supervisor of Registration.
Sec. 6. The Totem Commission shall, at is first re-
gular m~eting in July of each year, examine and revise the
registration book of the Town, erasing therefrom the names
of all voters who hav~ die~, re.~noved from the Town or are
other~vise disqualified to vote, and restoring the names of
any voters whose aames have been erroneously erased. Such
revision must be completed '.~ithin three days of the day
fixed for the first regular meeting of the Commission in
July, and immediately thereafter, there shall be published
in a newspaper published in this Town, or posted at the
door of the Town Hall, a list of the namesof all voters
~hose names shall have been ~rased, alpahbetically arranged.
At any meeting of the To~,rfn Commission held at least ten
days prior to the election, the name of any voter erroneously
erased shall be restored to the list by the Commission.
Sec. 7. The Clerk shall receive as co~'_'pensation for
his services as registrat!on cf ricer a fee of ten cents
for each person registered, which fee shall be paid by
the Tc~¥n.
Sec. 8. The Town Com~nis si on shall prepare and cause
to be printed the official ballot for each regular and
special election of the Town .Nominations may be made by
the filing of a petition sign.ed by at least five (5) re-
gistered voters of the Town, or by a certificate signed
by the Chairman ~ Secretary of any mass meeting, held
within the Town, at which nominations shall have been
made. The said certificate shall state ~hen and where
said mass meeting was held and give the names of the
respective candidates for the offices for which they
sh~ll be nominated. All nominations shall be made at
least ten (10) days prior to the date of the election.
Electors shall not b~~ confined to the names of candi-
dates printed or typewritten upon the official ballot
but may erase such names and substitute names of other
candidates to be written upon the ballots by the elec-
tors, None but t~e official ballot shall be used.
Typewritten forms for oallots may be used as well as
printed forms.
The above Ordinance No. 17, having been read in
full at a l~eeting of the Town Commission of the Town
of Boynton, Florida, held on the 18th day of October A. D.
19~1, was adopted and passed at a Regular ~Ieeting of said
Commission held on the 1st day of l~ovember A. D. 1921, and
a copy thereof posted, at the front door of the Town Hall at
Boynton, Florida, on the 2nd day of November A. D. 1921.
