65-YRESOLUTION NO. 65-Y
WHEREAS, pursuant to the charter of the CITY OF BOYNTON
BEACH, FLORIDA, the City Council of said municipality has heretofore, by
resolution, adopted certain Civil Service Rules and Regulations governing
the merit system of said municipality, effective July 16, 1962, as heretofore
amended; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the procedure set forth in said charter,
the Personnel Officer of said City has heretofore prepared a certain pro-
posed amendment to said Rules and Regulations pertaining to police promo-
tions, which proposed amendment has been approved by the City Manager
and submitted to the City Council for their consideration; and

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
1. That the amendment to the existing City of Boynton Beach
Civil Service Rules and Regulations, adopted July 16, 1962, as amended,
heretofore proposed and submitted by the Personnel Officer and approved
by the City Manager, and more particularly set forth hereinafter is hereby
~dopted, ratified and approved, subject amendment being as follows:
Section 4, of Article IV, of the existing Civil Service Rules
and Regulations of the CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, pert aining to
police promotions is hereby further amended by adding after Paragraph 7
thereof, an additional paragraph to read:

8:- In the event circumstances or conditions should arise
that make it impossible or impractical to classify an
individual police officer or officers for intra-department
promotion to the next higher position, because of labzk
of time-in-grade, and the waiver of such requirement is
deemed essential in order to meet the ends of efficient
merit system personnel administration, the City Manager
may recommend that such requirements be waived by the City
Council; provided, however· that the individual applicant
or applicants involved possess all other requisite quali-
fications required by these Rules for such promotion.
2. In all other respects subject Rules and Regulations, as
are hereby ratified and confirmed.
3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage.
