The meeting started with a brief introduction followed by an experiential diversity exercise that
addressed prejudices that people commonly have from childhood. IVlid-morning, there was a
discussion about the AFE team, the purpose of the workshop, the workshop agenda and
exPectations.
Afl:er a short break, an experiential exercise about teamwork and communication followed.
Next, the Architecture for Excellence was explained in detail, followed by lunch.
The AFE Philosophy and Strategy section was completed, and the group took a short break.
The EXCL Team shared stories and insight of their AFE experience.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was introduced with the focus being on finding comfort
with self and appreciation of others. This interactive element commonly enables people to
communicate and work better with others according to the educators. The workshop ended at
4:30 p.m.

Commission
On Friday, June 18, 1999, the same participants attended and MB~ was concluded with the
sharing of Myers-Briggs statistics. Leveraging Diversity started with a blend of organizational
behavior profiles, stereotypes, and a cultural scavenger hunt, all which addressed diversity.
After lunch, the AFE Implementation section was discussed followed by the ABC Element
briefing. The interactive explanation focussed on clarification.
The workshop concluded at 4:30 p.m. after a discussion of Synergy - the advantage and
difficulty in a city commission.
