Minutes 09-25-02 City of Boynton Beach Library Advisory Board Minutes: September 25, 2002 Present: Board members: Marion Grammer, Donna Harmening, Valerie Pleasanton, Herb Suss, Library Director: Virginia Farace Guest: Rob Ritterbusch Absent: Marva Collins, Dan Holthouse, Myra Jones The meeting was called to order at 3:45. Virginia introduced Rob Ritterbusch from the Palm Beach Post, attending as part of Leadership Boynton Beach. Dorothy Walker is no longer able to serve on the Board as she has moved out of the city. The minutes of the August 28 meeting were adopted as distributed. Correspondence: A "speedy recovery" card was sent to Mayor Broening from the Advisory Board. Chair's Report: None Unfinished business: The library budget was adopted as amended at the commission workshops. The book fund for 2003 will be $130,000. The overdue fines were approved as recommended. Labels will be attached to covers of CDs, videos and DVDs. Posters will be placed in visible locations, and a notice of the new fines will be placed in the October calendar. Changes in borrowing times are being considered, as well as an increase in the number of books that can be taken out at one time. The Board agreed that the number of books should be increased to 30 but did not reach an agreement on a "new fiction" limit. The Board recommended to the Director that the number of videos, audios and music CDs should remain the same. A suggestion was made to raise the number of magazines to four and lower the borrowing time to 7 days. The Library Director will make the final decision after conferring with staff. The City Commission adopted the library's Long Range Plan. New Business: Virginia requested that Board members contact their Congressman asking them to schedule a vote on HR 3784 to reauthorize LSTA. She also asked members to contact Governor Bush and legislators to bring attention to libraries' requests for funds and for remaining part of the Dept. of State. The Power Card drive is now underway. Anouncements: none The next board meeting will be held on October 30 at 3:30. The last meeting of the year will be held on December 11. There will be no meeting in November. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00.
