V. Announcements/Presentations/Correspondence
Chairman Waldman read a letter received by Ms. Claude from Tucker Abbott, the
winner of this year's Bob Borovy Award, a copy of which is on file in the City
Clerk's Office. Chairman Waldman thought that all the candidates were very
worthy of the award this year.
VI. Public Audience - None
VII. Old Business
A. Bowling Tournament (July 27, 2003 @ AMF Boynton Beach Lanes)
Chairman Waldman announced that the tournament will begin at 1:30 p.m. Ms.
Claude reported that a press release was included in Funfare! and flyers have
been distributed. Also, Ms. Claude did a mailing list to people who participated
last year.
Chairman Waldman pointed out that each year the tournament has generated
approximately $200 in profits. Discussion took place on what food should be
served. Chairman Waldman will take care of the refreshments.
B. Teen Center
No discussion
C. Guest Speakers
None
D. Youth Volunteer Bank
Chairman Waldman pointed out that there is $2,893 in the treasury for the Youth
Volunteer Bank.
Ms. Claude asked that the Board consider organizing small volunteer projects
throughout the year, rather than have one large project a year. She suggested
that the Board stage a project quarterly and asked members to come up with
some ideas, such as a beach clean-up, visiting nursing homes, etc. Ms. Claude
thought that this would make it more of a program, rather than having just one
project a year.
Chairman Waldman suggested that this be discussed further at the next meeting
so that information could be disseminated to the schools when they open in
August. Ms. Wilkinson suggested "adopting a road," which had to be cleaned

quarterly. Chairman Waldman inquired how this could be accomplished, and Ms.
Wilkinson thought it would have to go through the DOT or the agency that is in
charge of the road selected, such as the State, County or Municipality. Ms.
Wilkinson will follow through on this, and Ms. Claude will check with the City.
Members were asked to bring ideas to the next meeting.
E. Bob Borovy Award
Chairman Waldman thought that the evening was a success, and the recipients
of the awards were deserving young people. Ms. Claude noted that there had
been discussion about doing away with three winners and just having a first
place winner and a runner up, since there were not enough candidates. Ms.
Claude noted that there were only five applicants for the award, which members
felt was unusual. Ms. Claude pointed out that there were more applicants, but
they did not live within the City limits.
Ms. Wilkinson suggested offering the award in February; however, this would not
coincide with the Youth Banquet. Chairman Waldman noted that it has always
been traditional to give the awards out at the end of the school year. Ms. Claude
said that the deadline could be changed, but the award could still be given out at
the Youth Banquet. Ms. Claude noted that the current deadline is April 1st.
Ms. Claude suggesting placing something next year in the Boynton Beach High
School newspaper, as well as other high school newspapers that serve Boynton
Beach students.
This will be further discussed at the next meeting.
