RESOLUTION NO. R 04- II O
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH,
FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE STRONG MAYOR
INITIATIVE FOR PALM BEACH COUNTY; PROVIDING
FOR CONFLICTS; SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach is a Florida municipal corporation located
uithin Palm Beach County; and
WHEREAS, Palm Beach County currently operates under a Commission-Manager
'orm of government, which has a strong track record, both nationally and locally, for the
:fficient, effective delivery of local government services; and
WHEREAS, certain persons and groups have proposed a Strong Mayor Initiative for
~'alm Beach County that will change the form of government and result in the concentration
)f power in one individual; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission determines that continuing the current form of
.'ounty government is in the interests of the public health, safety and welfare of the residents
nd citizens of the City of Boynton Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
?HE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1. The foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are true and correct and
ereby ratified and confirmed by the City Commission
Section 2. That the City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach hereby
xpresses its opposition to the Strong Mayor Initiative for Palm Beach County and directs the
;ity Clerk to file a copy of this Resolution with the appropriate governmental agencies and
uthorities to make public the City's opposition.
Section 3. That if any section, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this
'~esolution is for any reason held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional,
~operative or void, such holding shall not affect the remainder of the Resolution.
Section 4. That this Resolution will become effective immediately upon passage.
