6. Chairperson's Remarks
Chairperson Chamberlain commented that Joan White has not attended the last three
meetings. Absentee members will be receiving a notice after missing three regular
meetings. Chairperson Chamberlain apologized for not attending last meeting. She has
been spending time at her home in Pensacola due to the hurricane damage.
7. Old Business
Chairperson Chamberlain questioned the board on direction of holding a forum and
solicited the board for specific projects to work on. Steve Lulkin, Recreation Supervisor,
expressed the need for hurricane assistance services at the Senior Center due to the
number of seniors that called during the recent storms. An emergency food bank can be
accomplished by requesting a canned food donation for participants when attending a
Center function. Another service needed is transportation for doctor appointments. Mr.
Lulkin mentioned the Center getting an ice machine and he has requested a generator,
which is pending. Of the four locations that provide assistance during the hurricane,
none were in the City area and seniors were not able to get transportation. RSVP, a
volunteer organization of the Area Agency on Aging, offers similar services for seniors.
Chairperson Chamberlain will contact Sherry Johnson of the Community Caring Center
(CCC) and Joyce Edelson of RSVP to attend the next Advisory meeting.
Ms. Bruzzese inquired about the project of locating shut-ins. Mr. Lulkin answered that
the CCC maintains a list and delivers meals and provides transportation. They are not
reaching everyone, which is why it is important to meet with them to coordinate
services. Chairperson Chamberlain suggested going into retirement homes to see if the
need existed for these services.
8. New Business
Ms. Jenkins expressed a concern for lack of emergency services in the north end of the
city. Emergency transportation is one issue that should be addressed. Ms. Jenkins
added that emergency services needed to be established prior to the hurricane season.
Ms. Wilson also expressed need for emergency / hurricane services for the eldedy
being established prior to hurricane season, and requested Chairperson Chamberlain to
call a special meeting to discuss this.
Chairperson Chamberlain will request a special meeting to address hurricane season
concerns and invite the City Commissioners and the Mayor. Chairperson Chamberlain
asked for show of hands to schedule a special meeting in Apdl 2005. A show of hands
was in favor of an April meeting. The date of meeting would be announced at the
March Advisory meeting.

new section. Approval of the contractor will be determined at the Commission meeting
on January 18. Two contractors bid on project. Construction start date is February 1,
2005 and will take approximately six to eight months to complete.
The new section will include: two new meeting rooms, a game room, two handicap
accessible bathrooms, an Art room, a new kitchen area and the lobby will be tiled.
The new fitness room that opened in July has been very successful. A therapist from
Outreach Services is there on Thursday afternoons to do evaluations.
Mr. Lulkin informed the Board of the center's new participant fee. A yearly fee of $40.00
now applies for use of the facilities for non-residents only. City residents are exempt.
Mr. Lulkin is taking membership card pictures for all participants.
The November cruise to Key West / Cozumel with 50 seniors was a success. Another
cruise is being planned for next November.
The Christmas party was a big success with over 200 participants, which was all paid
for through sponsorships.
