LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES: FEBRUARY 23, 2005
PRESENT: Sean Fenton, Donna Harmening, Dan Holthouse, Myra Jones, Barbara
McGee, Alice Otis, Valerie Pleasanton and Library Director Virginia Farace
ABSENT: Eleanor Daly (illness)
The meeting was called to order by Chair Valerie Pleasanton at 4:05 pm.
Secretary Donna Harmening read the minutes. Sean Fenton moved to approve. Motion
carried.
Virginia notified all board members whose terms were expiring and encouraged members
to reapply if they were interested.
A letter of thanks was sent to Bob Heffernan for his service to the Board.
Chair's Report: None.
Unfinished Business:
Library Expansion: Virginia reported that it was decided not to fence the Civic Center
parking lot until the last permit is issued. The trees are being root pruned. The Read
Boynton program presentation to the City Commission was really successful. Myra was
given a big thanks for representing the Board. Tomorrow night the first group of young
children will be at the Library to premier the Live Homework Help Line. A local author,
John Christopher Fine, heard about the program and will be here tomorrow night to
participate and present a slide show. Students may get help Live Homework Help (a new
library online service) by going to COALA.ORG/BOYNTON from 2:00 to 10:00 pm
seven days a week. A Spanish teacher will be available Monday through Thursday.
Virginia discussed designing a brochure for the Library Advisory Board.
The January monthly report is available and was passed around.
New Business: None.
Director's Report: Virginia reported that two adult reference positions were still open.
She has had three new responses. She conducted an interview last week and has another
interview scheduled.
Virginia gave us an update on the City Manager's health and advised us that Fire Chief
Bingham is serving as Acting City Manager.
The Friends luncheon was very successful. 260 people attended. James W. Hall, a
professor at FIU and successful author was the featured speaker.
The next meeting will be on March 23cd at 4:00 pm.
