LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES: MARCH 23, 2005
PRESENT: Eleanor Daly, Sean Fenton, Donna Harmening, Dan Holthouse, Myra Jones,
Barbara McGee, Alice Otis, Valerie Pleasanton, and Library Director Virginia Farace.

The meeting was called to order at 4:05 P.M. by Chairman Valerie Pleasanton.
Sean Fenton moved to accept the minutes as presented. Dan Holthouse seconded.
Minutes were approved.
CORRESPONDENCE: None
CHAm's REPORT: Valerie passed around a Sun-Sentinel article about Liz Armstrong.
She inquired about member's plans to attend the Board dinner.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Library Expansion: Virginia reported that she had just attended pre-construction meeting.
It appears that the contractor is very close to obtaining the construction permits.
The "Read Boynton" program will resume now that the FCAT is over. "Hoot", a young
adult book by Carl Hiaasen will be presented by Joyce Waters on April 14.
NEW BUSINESS: None
LmRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Virginia reported that she continues to interview
for the adult services positions. The City is undertaking a review of job descriptions and
classifications.
The monthly report was passed around for review.
State Library Update: One half of our allotment, slightly over $50,000, was electronically
deposited and the second and final payment will be made in a few months.
Legislative Update: We are scheduled to lose funds unless there is an increase to the
current State Aid appropriation.
Patriot Act: We discussed the Florida Library Association resolution to support the repeal
of some provisions of the Patriot Act affecting libraries. Board members exchanged their
ideas and will do further study on the subject and address this issue again at our next
meeting.
Virginia discussed the Arcadia Book about Boynton Beach now being worked on by
Janet DeVries on behalf of the Library along with Rev. Gill. The book will go to press
soon and be available in the fall. The photos will capture the historical essence of the
community.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The next Library Board meeting will be April 27, 2005.
The Friends annual meeting will be Monday, March 28th at 1: 15 P.M.
National Library Week will be April 10-16. (National Library Workers Day is Tuesday,
April 12 and personal expressions of thanks or a note to staff would be appreciated.)
There will be a Nancy Drew birthday party on April 26th at 6:30 in the Program room
with the program presented by Library staff member Janet DeVries who is a Nancy Drew
expert.
"Hoot", by Carl Hiaasen, will be the subject ofa book discussion cosponsored by the
American Association of University Women on Saturday, April 9th at 2:00 P.M.
