LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
AUGUST 25, 2004

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Valerie Pleasanton at 4:10 P.M.
Minutes: The minutes of the June 16, 2004 meeting were approved.
Correspondence: None
Unfinished Business: Bids for construction on the library expansion were opened on August 23rd,
2004. There were ten bids and three were within the six million dollar budget. The architect is
reviewing them and hopefully the bid award will be on the September 7 Commission agenda for
approval.
New Business: Virginia discussed the Long Range Plan. Valerie asked about a monthly progress
report on the annual plan. Virginia said the progress report is posted monthly and she will make
copies available to the board members if requested.
Sean Fenton recommended the approval of the Long Range Plan by the Commission. The motion
passed by unanimous vote.
Director's Report:
Employee Positions: Assistant Director A.D. has left and no replacement has been found as yet.
Adult Services/Reference Librarian (2 positions) Interviews are scheduled for Labor Day Week.
Circulation Desk: Michael Bennett and Betty Faherty have been hired and the 3rd ranked
candidate on the list, Ellen Coleman, has accepted a part-time Library Aide position in Support
Services.
Advertising will begin this week for the Administrative Secretary at the Museum to replace the
retiring Susanne Berman.
Budget hearings will be September 7th and 21st.
The next Board meeting will be September 22nd at 4:00 P.M.
Myra reported on the African American Book Club. They are tutoring 3rd graders for the F.C.A.T.
She is seeking volunteers to work with the children. 70% of the children have passed.
