Minutes 11-09-00Minutes of the Boynton Beach Golf Course Advisory Board Meeting held
Thursday, November 9, 2000 in the West Wing Conference Room C at 3PM.
Present: George Barrett, Chairman, City Member
Bill McCarty, City Member
Corrado "Connie" Giangreco, City Alternate
Art Mathews, County Member
Diane Johnson, City Member
Joe Sciortino, MP, Golf Director
Absent: Frank Wohlfarth, City Alternate
Jim Smith, Vice Chairman, County Member
The meeting was called to order at 3PM by Chairman Barrett. At the time, he
appointed Mr. Giangreco to sit in for the absent Diane Johnson as a voting
member.
Mr. McCarty moved to accept the agenda as presented, seconded by Mr.
Giangreco, and passed 3-0.
Under Announcements, Mr. Sciortinb told the Board that Assistant Professional
Rick Novak was selected as Apprentice of (he Year for the Southeast Chapter of
the South Florida PGA Section, and that First Assistant Tom Cleaver earned
Player of the Year for the Fourth time. Mr. McCarty moved that the Board
congratulate these two Links assistants for their accomplishments, seconded by
Mr. Giangreco, and passed 3-0.
Mr. McCarty moved to accept the minutes of the GCAB meeting held October 14,
1999, seconded by Mr. Giangreco and passed 3-0.
Under the Golf Director's report (copy attached) Mr. Sciortino went over each
division's progress and goals, as well as the financials from the previous fiscal
year, and the planned capital improvements. At about 3:10pm both Ms Johnson
and Mr. Mathews entered the meeting for the duration of the Golf Director's
report.
Mr. Sciortino let the Board know that the total number of permit renewals and
City resident new sales were 312 County and 132 City. Permits to City residents
only would continue to the end of November or until 150 were sold, whichever
came first:
Diane Johnson was glad to see that the course would be holding a City
Championship sometime in 2001, and also approved of the second "Concert on
the Green" scheduled for May 19th. Mr. Mathews inquired about the process used
by Mr. Sciortino to come up with the numbers of the GAP surveys and Mr.
Sciortino explained it to his satisfaction. Mr. Giangreco expressed dismay at the
small number of City resident permit sales, reminding the Board that City
residents not getting a permit in years' past had always upset him. Mr. Sciortino
reminded Mr. Giangreco that it was always the course's intention to make daily
fee rounds a true value, and that the cost savings of having a permit was not
always as great as it might seem at first glance.
Mr. Barrett approved of the idea of the wood deck for the restaurant that was on
order from the Facilities Maintenance Crew. He would' have preferred a screen
enclosure as well, as was the original plan for the clubhouse, but felt the deck
was a good first step.
Mr. McCarty commended the Golf Director for the completeness of his report.
And then he moved to adjourn the meeting. That motion was seconded by Ms
Johnson and passed 5-0. The meeting was adjourned at 4:05PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Joe~ i~no, PG'~A MP
