Minutes 08-31-05 CITY of BOYNTON BEACH LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES: AUGUST 31,2005 Present: Donna Harmening, Dan Holthouse, Barbara McGee, Barbara Wilson, Valerie Pleasanton and Library Director Virginia Farace. Absent: Eleanor Daly, Sean Fenton Chairman Valerie Pleasanton called the meeting to order at 4: lOP .M. Minutes: The minutes of the July 27, 2005 meeting were approved by consensus as distributed. Correspondence: None Chair's Report: Valerie discussed the Patriot Act as it affected libraries and asked Virginia if there was anything new to report. Unfinished Business~ Virginia reported on the expansion. FPL still needs to move a pole before the slab and footers can be poured. Both change orders were approved by the City Commission. The budget hearings will be on Sept. 6 and Sept.20. No budget changes that will affect the library are anticipated. New Business: The monthly report will be e-mailed and will be available in the Library for those who don't have e-mail access. The Long Range Plan will be on the City Commission agenda for approval next Tuesday. Dan Holthouse moved that the Board recommend that the Long Range Plan be approved; seconded by Barbara Wilson. Motion approved. The State Aid Grant application was also approved by the Board and will be on next Tuesday's agenda for Commission approval. Virginia explained new services that will be available to the Library users as pilot services. Color Printing will be available at $1.00 per page. Fax service will be available in the 561 Area Code for $1.00 per page. The rates outside the 561 Area Code will be $2.00 per page. No service will be available to areas outside the continental U.S. Wireless internet access is now available to patrons. There was a discussion of Wireless internet access being made available by the CRA. Library Director's Report: The final vacant position has been offered to an applicant and is awaiting the City Manager's approval. The book, "Images of America "is available at a 20% discount ($17.04) to museum and library staff and to members of the Friends. There will be a book signing on Monday, Sept. 19 by the authors, Janet DeVries and Rev. Gill. Announcements: Virginia will be on vacation for the next two weeks.
