Minutes 07-23-01 MEETING MINUTES OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT HELD AT STATION WXEL, 3401 S. CONGRESS AVENUE, BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA ON MONDAY, JULY 23,2001 AT 7:00 P.M. Staff Present: Police Chief Marshall Gage Nancy Byrne, Assistant Development Director Octavia Sherrod, Community Development Manager Barbara Meacham, Landscape Planner Richard Laverdure, Code Compliance Inspector Also Present: Commissioner Mike Ferguson I. Welcome A sign-in sheet was distributed for signature by attendees. Neighborhood Specialist, Dan DeCarlo, welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. II. Guided Tour of WXEL Studios Mr. Fred Flaxman and Ms. Darlene Spagnola of WXEL led attendees on a guided tour of the radio and television studios of WXEL. III. Digital Television Demonstration After the tour, a digital television demonstration on the new high definition technology being implemented by the station and all television stations throughout the United States, was viewed, followed by a question and answer period. Mr. DeCarlo thanked Mr. Flaxman and his staff for their courtesy and time. Mr. DeCarlo said he is arranging to take a digital camera on the trip to Qufu, China, as well as applying for funding for a cameraman to accompany them on the trip. IV. Announcement of our Sister City, Qufu, Delegation Visit Mr. DeCarlo announced that the Qufu dele~ation is still scheduled to visit Boynton Beach on August 17th through the 22" and the travel arrangements are being finalized. A major event is being planned for the new High School auditorium. Meeting Minutes Neighborhood Summit Boynton Beach, Florida July 23, 2001 V. Neighborhood Update · Landscaping projects and signage have been completed at Dos Logos, Nautica, Sausalito Place and Citrus Glen. . Work is continuing on Gateway Boulevard and the Crossings. . New signs will be installed at Village Royale. · A neighborhood meeting was recently held at the Wilson Center to discuss the MLK corridor plans. Two additional meetings are scheduled for Saturday, August 11 th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the HeadStart Office and on Saturday, August 25th at the Poinciana Elementary School Cafeteria from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. · A Neighborhood Academy in the MLK area is being formed to focus on crime prevention and crime reduction. The Police Department has a very active neighborhood watch program in this part of the City. This area is comprised of the C-16 Canal on the north, east to the FEC Railroad tracks, south to 3rd Street and west to 1-95. · Plans are being formalized for a total upgrading of the Wilson Center and staff is working on a master plan. VI. Questions & Answers Not addressed. VII. Upcoming Events Included on the agenda. Currently there are eight people who have signed up for the 12-day trip to Qufu, China. Anyone interested in attending is welcomed. Officer Asim Brown announced that the City's Police Department would be sponsoring a Community Meeting at the new High School on Thursday, August 9, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. Topics to be discussed are crime prevention, the Citizens' Policy Academy and other programs offered by the Police Department. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
