Chair Waldman explained the Education Advisory Board had three remaining members and the
two boards would be combined. Ms. Claude reported the first reading of the ordinance is on the

ordinances, and any change requires the ordinance to be amended. She further explained
ordinance changes require two readings. At the moment, the Children and Youth Advisory
Board has three vacancies and assuming the Education Advisory Board members continue to
serve, there would be a full board.
There was a brief discussion about requesting the Children and Youth Advisory Board
membership be increased by about two members. Ms. Claude recommended taking action
right away if the board was interested in pursuing that. There was consensus to defer the
determination until after the two boards were combined. Ms. Claude indicated if the board
wanted to increase its membership, her sense was the City Commission would support the
request.

public service. He suggested the members view the information via the internet.
E. Youth Expo
Ms. Morera reported she attended a very short meeting for the Youth Expo at City Hall in the
Mall. At the meeting, assignments for various tasks and contacting various schools for Youth
Expo were given. She explained the meeting appeared to be more of a kick-off meeting and
she did not believe there were minutes available. The Youth Expo is an activity held every two
years, around the month of October. It is a showcase of talent from children and youth around
the area in various categories, such as martial arts, singing, dancing, artwork, essay contests,
gymnastics, etc. Awards and ribbons are given to the winners. Entries are judged and the
winners are posted in the mall. The event used to be a two-day event but is now a one-day
event. It is a good way to provide information to parents and children about programs that are
available in the County and the State. Non-profit groups from within the City and County put up
booths and there are give-a-ways. The board would like to get more youth involved.
