Brief discussion about this Special Meeting and those who did not attend how they
missed out on the fun part of why they joined the Arts Commission _ to choose art!
Debby informed the board that Jean Kasan was resigning. The board discussed that
they would like to see Barbara Ready moved from an alternate to a regular member.
Debby would make that aware to both the City Clerk's office and the City Commission
once a Art Commission appointee position in on the City Agenda.
REVIEW OF ARTISTS FOR AVENUE OF THE ARTS PROJECT
Discussed the proposed art locations
Wanted to know if the structure in front of the Children's Schoolhouse Museum is con-
structed of. Possibility of it having fountain elements can accommodate a specific art
piece.
All locations will have to have secure bases to mount the art.
Debby reposted that she had met with Jeff Livergood to review the locations and that
most looked ok in that they were in the right of way areas of the City.
The site locations that did look problematic were the ones along Ocean Ave east of
Federal Hwy because they were under FL DOT jurisdiction.
Discussed that we could get permission form property owners east of Federal Hwy but
then the art liability issues may be problematic.
Barbara Lentz was going to speak to the property owner of Ocean Plaza to see if they
were interested in a site located on their property. this would bring the Avenue of the
Arts to a destination that could benefit the Plaza's businesses.
Debby reported that she spoke to Tim Large concerning permitting. He informed her
that if the art was on City property that a permit would be required. That permit would
require that the art have documentation for the wind load engineering requirements.
Open discussion about how art typically is not subject to permitting requirements and
that that Public Artists were responsible for securing their art in the locations so that it is
safe for public display.
Debby is continuing internal discussions and is getting Engineering to provide an overall
area map for the site locations as well as site specific location drawings.
