R97-/~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE JOB DESCRIPTION AND RECLASSIFICATION OF FOUR (4) EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II'S, GRADE 21, TO RECYCLING TRUCK OPERATORS, GRADE 23; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WI{EREAS, upon recommendation of staff, the City Commission deems it to be in the best interests of the public to approve new job descriptions of four (4) Equipment Operator II's, Grade 21, to Recycling Truck Operators, Grade 23, which action was previously submitted by the Public Works Department in the 1997-98 budget; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMmiSSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida does hereby approve the new job descriptions of four (4) Equipment Operator II's, Grade 21, to Recycling Truck Operators, Grade 23, which action was previously submitted by the Public Works Department in the 1997-98 budget and which description is attached hereto as Exhibit Section 2. CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA Commissioner ATTEST: City Clerk (Cor~'!'"'~'~ ~' RECYCLING TRUCK OPERATOR GRADE 23 NATURE OF WORK: Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of recycling trucks and route pickup. Work is normally performed on one specific piece of equipment, however, employees are required at times to operate other equipment or perform semi-skilled tasks. Work includes the servicing and operator maintenance of equipment. Assignments may be given in detail for each job or work may follow established patterns. ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS: Note: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the types of work performed in this classification. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this position. Operates a recycling truck on designated routes for residential pickup. Picks up by hand, 18 gallon recycling containers placed at curb and dump into side load containers on the track. Drive truck to designated landfill and dump. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of truck daily. Performs incidental non-skilled and semi-skilled labor if assigned. Performs related work as required. KNOWLEDGE~ ABILITIES AND SKILLS Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of operating and maintaining heavy equipment. Considerable knowledge of the rules of safe operation of heavy equipment and of the precautions to be taken to avoid accidents. Ability to make minor adjustments and to service heavy equipment. Skill in the operation of heavy and specialized automotive and related equipment. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Must possess Class B CDL Florida driver's license. Experience in the operation of heavy automotive or related equipment and completion of high school or G.E.D. or any equivalent combination of experience and training. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Degree of Physical Demands (Strengths) usually associated with this classification: Heavy Work: Exerting or moving up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This position may require standing, sitting, and/or walking to a significant degree on a variety of surfaces. Stooping, Climbing, Balancing, Kneeling: (Stooping - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist). (Climbing - Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms). (Balancing - Maintaining bo y equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or running on narrow, slippery, or erratmally movmg surfaces; or mmntaming body equilibrium when performing gylnnastic feats). (Kneeling - Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees). D~ving: ,,(Driving - Must be able to operate motor vehicle and possess the appropriate, valid Class "B Commercial Driver's License with endorsement to operate vehicle with air brakes). R~aching, Handling, Fingering and Feeling: (Reaching Extending the hand (s) and arm (s) in an~ direction). (Handling - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands, fingering not involved). (Fingering - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fifigers primarily, rather than with the whole hand or arms as in handling). (Feeling - Perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of receptors in skin, particularly those of fine tips). (Seeing - The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye). ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Physical Surroundings usually associated with this classification: The Worker is Subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: No effective protection from weather. Hazards: At times worker is exposed to excessive heights, noise, chemicals, and insects. Machines. Tools. Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: Diesel and Electric Generators, Gas Engine, Buckets, Cables, Holding Fixtures, Hooks, Nets, Turnbuckles, Work Orders, Rear-End Loader, Tractor, Tracks, Two-Way Radio.
