Meeting Minutes
Safety Committee
Boynton Beach, Florida
May 14, 2007
There was a short discussion on fire drills. Mr. Magazine reported there had been occasions
where a member of the public pulled the fire alarms and recently a small boy set off the alarm
in the lobby. There was additional discussion on how far away the employees are supposed to
be from the building during the fire drills.
Mr. Magazine explained the employees should be across the street and it was up to the Safety
Coordinator to establish the designated meeting spot. It was noted at the recent fire drill, some
employees exited the building and remained in the parking lot directly in front of the building.
It was thought the employees being in that area was a hazard. Not only was it not enough
distance from the building in the event it was a real fire, but it also would obstruct emergency
vehicles who should have clear access.
B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards
There was a discussion employees receiving the awards could receive additional exposure
through the Disc Awards, or Almost Famous.
C. Departmental Inspections & Safety Meetings
Mr. Magazine reported the inspection forms were located on the shared drive.
D. Defensive Driver Course
Mr. Magazine reported he would provide a list of employees needing to take the course for each
department that requested one.
E. Incident Review Board Referrals
None.
F. Designated Smoking Area, City Hall
Mr. Magazine announced the prior decision made by the Safety Committee about smoking in
the designated safety area was conveyed to the City Manager. The decision was the smokers
would clean the area and smoking cessation classes be offered through Human Resources. He
advised some City employees were smoking in other areas. He requested if the members saw
that occurring, that they ask the employee to stop. Employee smoking in City or personal
vehicles used in the course of City duties, or using cell phones while performing City
responsibilities would not be tolerated. Additionally, Mr. Magazine reported that the City
Manager had not made a determination about the issue.
VI. New Business
A. Departmental Safety Issues
None.

Boynton Beach, Florida
May 14, 2007
Mr. Bebensee announced this would be his last meeting and he had accepted employment
elsewhere.
Mr. Vicki noted in the Safety Committee March meeting minutes, the warehouse had the most
up-to-date Material Safety Data Sheets, (MSDS). It was clarified they only had the information
for what they stocked in the warehouse or what came through the warehouse.
Mr. Magazine indicated he was trying to put together a program to check the MSDS sheets
online. He was attempting to obtain a group rate. The City still had the website through
Cornell University, but that site was not updated as often as they would like. He would see
what could be arranged through the insurance carrier.
VIII. Next Meeting Date: Monday, June 11, 2007 10:00 a.m.
IX. Adjournment
There being no further business to discuss there was unanimous agreement to adjourn.
