This system was to alert coworkers to situations that were potentially life threatening and to provide guidance on what steps or training could be taken to avoid them. The Near Miss System provided a methodology to help identify potential accidents on an anonymous basis. Due to Mr. Senseman's efforts, a second report was received. He emphasized someone working outdoors can lose between one and two liters of fluids per hour. He explained it was necessary to sweat in order to keep cool, and if the employee stops sweating there would be organ shut down. He explained the seriousness of the topic could not be underscored enough. He recalled a firefighter student died from this and as a supervisor, there was liability to ensure employees were monitored. If an employee crossed from Heat Exhaustion to Heat Stroke, and the employee was hot and dry and started acting confused, 911 should be called.
