VERBATIM TRANSCRIPT OF CHAIR HENDERSON TILLMAN'S REMARKS FOLLOWING
COMMISSIONER ENSLER'S COMMENTS ABOUT THE INCENTIVES FOR THE 500
OCEAN AVENUE PROJECT, COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY MEETING ON
SEPTEMBER 12,2006
Chair Tillman:
With all due respect sir (to Commissioner Ensler), responding for the CRA board, and if the
attorney wants to respond he can respond himself. The CRA does have a mission and that is
what we are up here to carry out and part of the mission is the procedure and the processes
that we set down to follow. And, we have these procedures and processes in place so this can
be a viable and credible board in terms of what we do, whether we are doing it downtown or
whether we are doing it in whatever community we are that we are doing. This must be a
credible organization that has some leeway in order to do business. That is what we are doing
tonight. And I think in order for us to continue to carry out our business, it becomes necessary
at times to follow in the directions we have to follow in. Every time I sit up here in terms of
months, in terms of workshops, and different things, it is not an easy situation. It never gets
easy, but part of what this job is is making sure this office and what this agency does is seen as
credible and worthwhile. That is what we do up here and that is what I ask our staff to do and
that is what we sit as a board to do. And we recognize that and that is what we are trying to do
and so, I, as for one, I believe in terms of what we are doing tonight, we are right on task and
that we should be doing what is necessary in order to carry out the procedures that are
necessary to make this project work if, in fact, it is going to do so.
