He announced if there was a specific issue an employee needed to learn how to handle, to let them know. They had resources and if they did not have material on it, they would get it. V. Old Business A. Fire Drills Mr. Altman spoke with Mr. Macintyre about fire drills and noted Recreation and Parks was outstanding as far as fire drills were concerned. The Fire Department also conducted fire drills. The Library was opening March 24, 2008. Mr. Magazine suggested holding at least one fire drill in the Library within the first 90 days. Additionally, Mr. Magazine reported they put the plastic covers over the fire alarm pull stations in the City Hall Lobby to prevent false alarms. The covers were suggested for the Library as well and Ms. Rivers would look into the covers. B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards Mr. Magazine explained they were trying to recognize employees who go out of their way and do something really safe that has an impact on people. Several months ago they scheduled a safe workers award for two people before the City Commission. One employee showed and one did not. Mr. Magazine expressed his disappointment that they are really trying to honor an individual and recognize the actions they had taken by bringing them to the City Commission. The Mayor personally presents the award, and pictures are taken. In the future, Safety Award recipients would receive pins but staff will not issue certificates unless the recipients attend the presentation at the City Commission meetings. There was discussion some employees may not want to go home, shower and come back to the meeting during the dinner hour. Mr. Magazine explained it was frustrating when they have to pull the awards off the agenda. Mr. Magazine advised they will still make the effort and noted the City Manager and the Mayor love these recognitions. C. Departmental Inspections & Safety Meetings Mr. Magazine advised the Departmental Inspection information is on the shared drive. He asked members to review the information to ensure it was correct. Chair Bobich has been following up on issues and conducting inspections as a supplement. He explained one way to keep an area safe was to routinely inspect areas. Chair Bobich has also been reading the inspection reports. He found an item at the Intracoastal Park based on a report submitted. Mr. Magazine emphasized when a form 2 Meeting Minutes Safety Committee Boynton Beach, Florida March 10, 2008 is submitted, it would be followed up. D. Defensive Driver Course 1.
