Minutes 06-09-08 MINUTES OF THE SAFETY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, JUNE 9, 2008, AT 10:00 A.M. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 10:06 a.m. Chair Bobich explained Vice Chair Magazine was out of town, due to the birth of his gr:mdchild Qrandson. II. Roll Call The Recording Secretary called the roll and determined a quorum was present. III. Acceptance of Minutes of 05/12/2008 regular meeting There were no changes to the minutes, and the minutes were approved by consensus. IV. Safety Committee Education and Training Program - Safety Video The video presentation was deferred to the next meeting 1 Meeting Minutes Safety Committee Boynton Beach, Florida June 9, 2008 v. Old Business A. Fire Drills Ms. Rivers reported staff at the pool established emergency activation procedures. Chair Bobich explained Utilities conducted a fire drill, but he did not have the report with him. B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards None. Chair Bobich thought there were one or two forthcoming from Utilities. C. Departmental Inspections & Safety Meetinos Chair Bobich advised he was reviewing the reports, and they are on the Shared Drive. D. Defensive Driver Course 1. Solid Waste drivers, special class The list of Solid Waste personnel required to take the course was completed, and personnel would begin to take the course in the near future. E. Incident Review Board Referrals None. F. Near Miss Accident Reportino System Chair Bobich explained the system was available through Hotmail; however, they were trying to establish a system internally. He explained if information was sent via email, confidentiality was lost. Staff was trying to get a confidential system in place. In the interim, providing the information to Risk Management would be a plus. G. Fire Alarm System in City Hall Complex The system was still being updated and staff was waiting for a proposal for the Public Works, West Plant and West Wing areas. Chair Bobich explained work was needed to be done at those locations, as well as at City Hall and other facilities. H. Departmental Safety Issues Chair Bobich explained information was distributed about heat stress, but a few incidents had already occurred within the last week. He stressed the need for employees to remain hydrated and in the shade. It was important for employees to keep an eye out for their coworkers. If a coworker did not look well, the situation should be addressed. Employees should eat properly and it was noted, Gatorade and other potassium-rich foods would be helpful. B. Other None. VII.
