R97-056RESOLUTION NO. R97-~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, STRONGLY OPPOSING HOUSE BILL 561 AND SENATE BILL 524, AS UNFUNDED MANDATES FOR THE 1997 SESSION; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD A COPY OF SAID RESOLUTION TO THE APPROPRIATE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, House Bill 561 and Senate Bill 524 seek to increase minimum benefits, statewide, for municipal police and fire pension plans; and WHEREAS, the proposed legislation represents an unfunded mandate by the State and no comprehensive study has been done to determine the cost to local governments of complying with this legislation; and WHEREAS, the proposed legislation would impose increased benefits, reduce city control over expenditures of the pension boards, and increase city funding responsibility for pensions under Chapter 175 and 185; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida does hereby strongly oppose House Bill 561 and Senate Bill 524. Section2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.
