1. Parking Garage Basement Lighting
Mr. Magazine spoke to Mr. Bill DeBeck concerning the lighting. Mr. DeBeck is getting
prices with options on different lighting fixtures. He is hoping to receive information very
soon.
C.Parking Garage Flooring (i.e. very slippery when wet)
Mr. Magazine stated that the bids came in very high; approximately in the $80,000 area.
They are looking at other options because the budgeted figure is $40,000. The price is
high because the existing floor has to be removed before a new floor can be installed.
For safety reasons, Mr. Hall questioned if the worst areas could be redone first, using
the already budgeted money. Discussion ensued. Mr. Magazine responded that he will
check with Mr. Bill DeBeck, in Facilities and see if this is a possible way to go.
D. Safety Newsletter
Mr. Magazine is still looking for someone to take over Jewel Farmer’s column in the
safety newsletter. He was also looking for input and articles.

responsible to go through their areas and then report findings to him. Information is

network.
H. Safe Driver Program
1. Defensive Driver Course
Mr. Magazine reported that 95 people went through the course and only five people
failed on the first time. Two of those five people retook the course and passed. The
other three people still need to repeat the class. The purpose of the class is to get
people to drive safely, not to stop people from driving. This is NOT a punishment class.
The classes are filling up and another 140 people are registered for upcoming classes.
Mr. Magazine had a lot of positive feedback from the people who took the class. This is
the eight hour class from the National Safety Council.
Mr. Magazine is working on putting together a Spanish class and Carolina Luque
volunteered to work with those who sign up for this eight hour class. We are putting
another class together, for those with literacy and language difficulties. Please inform
Mr. Magazine the number of people who will be taking the class who have a literacy
problem.
There are still openings for the month of March and April. The average person
completes the course in about 31/2 hours. Some insurance companies are giving
discounts when a person completes this course. Allstate currently recognizes the “55
Alive” course only. People need to check with their own insurance company to see if
they offer discounts.

very informative and could be helpful information to any driver. A copy is attached to
