LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES: OCTOBER 22, 2008

The meeting started at 4:05 P. M. Barbara Mc Gee moved to approve the minutes as submitted.
Motion carried.
CHAIR'S REPORT: None.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The contractor's turnover date is scheduled to be December 30.2008.
Much progress has been made inside. The outside work will start next week.
The commission has revoked the previous contract for the cafe. New qualifications have been
drawn up. The city will pay for finish work and the cafe operator will provide the refrigeration.
There has been some local interest shown.
The City Attorney approved the meeting room guidelines last week.
The best route to go with non returned items is still being studied. The use of credit or debit
cards and the option to pay online are under consideration.
November is "Food for Fines" month. A $1.00 credit will be given for each non-perishable food
item. Contributions may also be made by patrons who do not owe fines.
The next meeting will be a combined November-December meeting and will be held on
Wednesday, December 3rd at 4:00 P.M.
NEW BUSINESS: The library participated in the National "Read for the Record Challenge". We
were winners of the Palm Beach County literacy Coalition "Mayor's literacy Initiative" and won
the prize of 100 books. Mayor Taylor read to the children and led them in a Teddy Bear Parade.
The Public Arts Commission is considering the purchase of a Bernard Thomas painting for
$3,600.00. The painting is a seascape and will hang near the archives room on the 2nd floor.
Barbara Mc Gee moved to accept he art piece if purchased by the Public Arts Commission for
the library. The motion passed by consensus.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Clark announced that an application has been
submitted for State aid. He hopes to receive approximately $68,000.
There are eight (two part time) Librarians on staff now. Director Clark is advertising for a new
Teen Librarian.
Director Clark and his Administrative Assistant hosted the Chamber Leadership Program. They
had a tour of the High School and returned to the Library for an Information Treasurer Hunt.
The Adult Reading Club will start on December 1 and run through April 4th. Ten books ofthe
patron's choosing must be read and a tote bag will be presented upon completion.
A training program for Friend's volunteers will be held in November and will be ongoing. The
class will consist of three one hour sessions.
After the move is completed the large print and audio collections will be located near the front
of the building for the convenience of people with mobility issues.
The Florida Collection of fiction will have a palm tree sticker displayed on the book and will be
integrated into the regular collection. The Florida collection consisting of non- fiction books will
remain a separate collection.
The Friends luncheon will be on February 16, 2009 at Benvenuto. Elaine Viets, a Florida
mystery writer will be the guest speaker. Tickets will go on sale December 1st. The tickets will
be $50.00 each or $45.00 each when purchasing a table often.
