People want to know about powers of attorney, and if they should give their property to their children now to avoid probate. Ms. Bailey will advertise this so that people can attend the meeting to ask questions. Mr. Rose added that there are a number of very important changes in State law that are going to be effective January 1, and it is a good idea for individuals to be brought up to date on them. He pointed out that unless they are controversial, quite frequently they are not announced in the newspapers. Chairwoman Collins felt the Board should also invite someone from HRS to talk about what someone can do if they know of an elderly person who is living alone and is not able to handle his or her own affairs. She pointed out that many of these people are being taken advantage of by other people. Ms. Bailey will also advertise in the newspaper that a speaker from HRS will be at the next meeting.
