WELCOME: Chairman Jeannie Taylor welcomed Diane Lawrence and John
McGovern, new appointees to the board. She also welcomed Dan Holthouse,
who is returning to the board after a short absence. Jeanie designated alternate
Martin Helo to stand in for Donna Harmening during the meeting.
MINUTES: Minutes of the December 3, 2008 meeting were approved as
distributed.

CHAIR'S REPORT: The election of officers for 2009 was held. Jeannie Taylor
was re-elected as Chairman, Valerie Pleasanton was elected Vice Chair, and
Donna Harmening was elected Secretary. Jeannie also discussed an upcoming
library conference in May and distributed ALA awards.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Craig discussed the status of the ongoing Library
Construction project. The current plan is to close for three weeks beginning Feb
14th to move back into the renovated building. The public Grand Opening will be
March 7, 2009 from 9am to 5pm. A pre-Grand Opening Gala will be held March
6, 2009; the cost of tickets is $55.00.
CAFE UPDA TE: RFQ submittals will be opened on February 5, 2009.
TEEN SERVICES LIBRARIAN: Craig presented our new librarian, Lisa Kreutter,
to the board. She detailed some of her planned activities and was welcomed
warmly by the board.
ICMA GRANT: The library is asking for $39,000 in grant money to fund a much
needed Homework Helper Program. John suggested concentrating on
remediation of dropouts and focusing on higher order thinking skills. Members
discussed the project and its focus.

NEW BUSINESS: Craig discussed the moving plans for the transfer back to the
renovated building and encouraged all members to attend the Ribbon Cutting
ceremony to be held Monday, March 9th at 3:00pm. He has invited various
dignitaries including senators, commissioners, etc. He invited members to
purchase tickets to the pre-Grand Opening Gala as well. Craig also updated the
board on the planned three week closing and the checkout procedures. He
distributed the press releases used to inform the public regarding the closing. He
also mentioned that the opening day book order is on schedule. Finally, Craig
discussed the 2009 State Aid cut. The library will receive about $14,000 less this
year due to funding cuts at the state level. Martin Helo suggested that members
write their congressmen and ask for increased library aid to help offset the cuts at
both the state and municipal levels.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Craig reported major increases in usage
including increases of 26% in visits, 35% in circulation, and Young Adult
circulation increase of 40%. The board discussed the probable continuing
increase in usage trends due to current economic issues and expressed concern
over how the budget cuts could affect service levels. The Friends Luncheon
featuring author Elaine Viets is planned for Feb 16th and all are invited.
Genealogy classes offered at the library by Janet DeVries are continuing to grow
in popularity. She is also starting a Genealogy Club due to the growing interest
in the field. Anne discussed the ongoing Friends Volunteer Training classes she
is offering to acquaint volunteers with all the library has to offer. She invited the
board member to attend as well.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: The next Library Board meeting will be Wednesday,
February 25th, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.
