LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES: MARCH 25, 2009
PRESENT: Donna Harmening, Martin Helo, Dan Holthouse, Barbara Mc Gee, John Mc Govern,
Diane Lawrence, Valerie Pleasanton, Chairman Jeannie Taylor, Willie Pearl Wilson, Director
Craig Clark, Asst. Director Anne Watts
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 P.M.
MINUTES: The minutes of the February 25,2009 meeting were accepted as presented.
Correspondence: Director Clark read a letter from Governor Crist extending his congratulations
on the opening of the new Library.
Chair's Report: Chairman Taylor presented an article from Hernando County. They are
considering privatizing their library.
It was noted that there were favorable comments made about the library at the last
commission meeting. Director Clark read a letter from Debbie Coles-Dobay about the art
exhibit on the second floor. Valerie Pleasanton asked if there was any information regarding
the art work in honor of Virginia Farace. Director Clark will try to find out the status of this and
will offer an update at the next meeting.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Construction Update: The contractor is working on the punch list. The computers were late and
the server was down, causing delays in installation. Hopefully, they will be connected by next
week.
Cafe Update: The contract has been awarded to Ellie's Catering. No food will be allowed in the
library. Drinks must be in a covered container.
ICMA Grant: We were not awarded one of the nine grants.
Library Grand Opening: The Friends cleared nearly $4,000.00 on the pre-Grand Opening Gala.
About 5500 people visited the Library on the Grand Opening Saturday.
NEW BUSINESS: Director Clark will report on the budget for 2010 at the next meeting.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: The monthly report was presented. Statistics were down due to
the closing. There is consideration regarding the opening of a Friends Bookstore and Gift Shop.
Valerie suggested using teen volunteers.
The next meeting will be April 22nd at 4:00 P.M.
