PRESENT: Donna Harmening, Dan Holthouse, Barbara McGee, Valerie Pleasanton, Jeannie Taylor, Chair,
Willie Pearl Wilson, Library Director Craig Clark, Assistant Director Anne Watts
Absent: Dianne Lawrence, Jim Mc Govern
The meeting was called to order at 4:05 P.M.
MINUTES: The minutes of the May 27th meeting were approved.
CORRESPONDENCE: Director Clark read an email from Jim McGovern explaining his absence and
questioning the Friday closing. Director Clark explained that the Friday closing would have less impact
on the Public and staff. City Hall closes on Friday. There is considerable interaction between staff and
City administration. Children's programs are not utilized as much on Friday. A Friday closing only denies
public access for 8 hours instead of 111/2 on other week days.
CHAIR'S REPORT: Chairman Taylor discussed the Library's position as a first responder in emergencies.
She distributed an article quoting an 1897 issue of Public Libraries discussing the role of games and toys
for children in libraries.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Director Clark presented a display of finishes that maybe used in the Sailfish
cafe. The possibility of a City Engineer service as General Contractor was discussed. Completion will
possibly be in October.
Director Clark discussed the budget for 2009-2010.
Assistant Director Watts reported on the summer reading program. Attendance for all programs has
broken all records. The children through 5th grade will receive thermal lunch bags. The older students
will get a lavaliere type holder for their library card and student I.D.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Clark reported that Michael Hall had resigned as Museum
Director. He discussed the monthly report for May.
The next Library Board meeting will be on July 22, 2009 at 4:00 PM.
We adjourned to the computer room to watch a video of a Today Show segment,"Libraries Lend a Hand
in the Recession". We then moved to the Youth Program Room for a live demonstration of games
available for teens.
