Minutes 07-27-09 MINUTES OF THE RECREATION AND PARKS ADVISORY BOARD TOUR MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, JULY 27,2009, AT 6:00 P.M. COMMENCING AT THE BOYNTON BEACH CIVIC CENTER, BOYNTON BEACH, PRESENT: Betty Pierce-Roe, Chair William Orlove, Vice Chair John Allard Tom Gresh Robert Lapin John McVey Janelle Sloan Jody Rivers, Parks Superintendent ABSENT: Betsy Wallshein-Radin, Alternate Corey Cook, Alternate I. CALL TO ORDER A tour commenced at 6:30 p.m. from the Civic Center. II. ATTENDANCE Attendance was taken with the above members noted as present. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM JUNE 22, 2009 AND JULY 13, 2009 Motion Vice Chair Orlove moved to approve the June and July minutes. Mr. Allard seconded the motion that unanimously passed. New member Tom Gresh was introduced. Mr. Gresh was born in Florida, raised in Boca Raton, and moved to Boynton Beach 10 years ago. He works in Pompano Beach, and was a yacht captain for eight to ten years. He currently sells insurance. On the way to Girl Scout Park, Ms. Rivers pointed out Harmony Park, which was the smallest City park. The Arts Commission wanted to have some type of water feature or artwork there; however, there are no funds for artwork. The City Commission recently accepted the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board ranking of parks; but it was noted there was no formal discussion about the disposition of all the parks. 1 Meeting Minutes Recreation and Parks Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida July 27, 2009 The members toured the following parks and would reserve comment on them until the next meeting: Girl Scout Park, Forest Hill Park, Hibiscus Park, Pioneer Canal Park and Laurel Hills Park. Several parks had equipment replaced. All the parks signs were standardized. Pioneer Canal Park was of special note as the Park was the only Park with fresh water ramp access through the C-16 Canal. Additionally, part of Pioneer Canal Park was donated by HSBC Bank. IV. New Business A. Placement of public art called ''The Family." The Arts Commission approved the purchase of "The Family" artwork. It was anticipated art would be placed at several of the parks. The Arts Commission was looking for a recommendation from the Recreation and Advisory Board as to its placement. Motion Mr. Lapin moved to place "The Family" at Jaycee Park. Mr. McVey seconded the motion that unanimously passed. V. Next Meeting The next meeting was scheduled for August 24,2009. V.
