them to Risk Management quarterly.

Risk Management maintains a master list of employees needing to take the class. It

2. Footwear Inspections
Employees needed to be aware of the type of safety footwear allowed on the job and it
was announced inspections would take place. If an allowance was received and the
employee did not wear the proper type of shoes, they would be sent home.
It was also emphasized that if an employee was injured on the job and there was safety
equipment available that was not used or a safety program that was not followed,
statutorily, the City could reduce the employee's wage replacement pay by 25%.
VI. New Business
A. Departmental Safety Issues
The Fire Department was conducting spot inspections on their employees' and gear.
Chair Bobich had also been conducting field inspections in other departments and
inspection of the Art Center revealed there were still items needing to be addressed.
B. Other
Mr. Magazine reported there appeared to be an attitude within the City that safety
precautions were not necessary because employees were underfunded, understaffed
and overworked. He emphasized that under those circumstances it was even more
important to adhere to safety policies because employees take shortcuts and become
injured more often. Field operations would be shut down if necessary and he stressed
putting forth an extra effort in this regard.
VII. Announcements
Chair Bobich announced the training video shown previously regarding the proper way
to lift received a good response from the departments that had viewed it.
VIII. Next Meeting Date: Monday, January 11, 2010,10:00 a.m.
IX. Adjournment
Motion
Ms. Rivers moved to adjourn. Mr. Magazine seconded the motion that unanimously
passed. The meeting adjourned at 10: 15 p.m.
