LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES: JANUARY 27, 2010
PRESENT:
Barbara Erlichman, Donna Harmening, Dan Holthouse, Barbara McGee, Valerie
Pleasanton, Willie Pearl Wilson, Jeannie Taylor, Deborah Hoban, Asst. Dir. Anne Watts,
Dir. Craig Clark
Jeannie Taylor, Chair, called the meeting to order and welcomed new member, Deborah Hoban.
She called for the election of officers for the 2010 year. The board re-elected Jeannie Taylor as
Chair, and elected Deborah Hoban as vice-chair, and Valerie Pleasanton as Secretary.
The minutes of the December meeting were approved as distributed.
Correspondence and Communications
: The Code of Ethics ordinance was distributed for
review by board members. Craig emphasized that it applies to all board members.

Chair’s Report:
The Friends of the Library luncheon will be held Feb 15 at the Benvenuto
Restaurant. All board members were encouraged to attend. The Read Together Palm Beach
County book title ballot was distributed by Jeannie.
Unfinished Business:
Craig reported that the Library Café was ready and expected to open
within the week. He also reported on the Art Dedication and reception held for previous library
director, Virginia Farace. The sculpture dedicated to her is on display across from the circulation
desk. The State Aid grant has been awarded. It is about ten percent less than last year.
Assistant Director Anne Watts explained how the new NEH grant would be used for a consultant
to do a basic needs assessment of the local history collection. The assessment will be the
starting point for future grants to be used to digitize and preserve local papers.
New Business:
Craig announced the Friends of the Library have approved approximately
$23,000 in program funding which will help offset the $85,000 cut in library funding from the city
budget. The Friend’s funds will be used primarily for children’s programs. The group has also
donated money to support the book budget. Their book store is making about $1000/month.
Library Director’s Report:
Craig distributed the monthly reports for December. He also reported
on a HUD grant received to replace 70 windows in the Children’s Museum with hurricane proof
windows.
Announcements:
An information sheet regarding donations for Haiti Earthquake Relief was
distributed. The City Services Institute signup sheet was also distributed. Craig encouraged
members to participate. He also announced Gloria’s retirement after 10 years of service. Craig
hopes to have approval to report the position soon. The 1990 Library Board endowment fund
proceeds were used to purchase a new Florida ghost story book. The next meeting will be held
February 24, 2010 at 4:00 P.M.
