A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING THE OCEAN AVENUE ALIGNMENT
FOR THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION REPLACEMENT BRIDGE
CURRENTLY LOCATED ON OCEAN AVENUE; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the existing Ocean Avenue bridge owned by the Florida Departm
of Transportation is in dire need of replacement; and
WHEREAS, there exists a need for east-west access between the City of
Beach and the Town of Ocean Ridge to provide for emergency services, includ
transport and evacuation routes, access to hospitals and medical services, as well
access to retail, restaurant and cultural opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the location of the proposed bridge has been debated for many ye
by both communities; and
WHEREAS, the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council has
conceptual design to the City of Boynton Beach that creates a bridge that will become
design focal point as part of the downtown revitalization effort; and
WHEREAS, FDOT has committed to design the bridge within the existing
way to limit the length of the approach, to minimize as much as possible the impact
the surrounding neighborhood, to provide landscaping and to provide architectu
features to enhance the entire area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach supports ti
replacement of the FDOT bridge at Ocean Avenue, conditioned upon the FDOT providi~
as much consideration as possible to constructing the bridge within the existing right-(
way, utilizing the minimum height possible, limiting the approach slope, providir
landscaping, utilizing non-vibratory construction methods and incorporating the desi[
criteria set forth by the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council.
