R94-179RESOLUTION NO. R94-/~'~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING THE JOB DESCRIPTION FOR BUS DRIVER; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, by Resolution R94-85, dated May 17, 1994, the City Commission adopted a job description for Bus Driver- and WHEREAS, the attached amended job description for Bus Driver now incorporaI~s additional language which brings the j0b description into compliance with Fed~Cal Department of Transportation regulations regarding random drug testing, along With criteria relevant to rel~orting for work. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF TItlE CITY OF B~YNTON BEACH, FLORIDA THAT: Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, adopts the amended job description for the position of Bus Driver, as attached hereto made a part hereof. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage. Des-10/18/94 BusDrJver 1602 BUS DRIVER Nature of Work: This is highly responsible vehicle operation work in transporting City residents and citizens. Work may involve operating passenger vehicles over prescribed fixed routes within assigned areas or if assigned to special service ares to operate vehicles the most direct route between destination. Responsibilities include operating the vehicle carefUlly, safely and within a prescribed time schedule. Work is performed with the utmost regard for the safety of the passengers, the general public and all equipment. Specific assignments or schedules are reviewed on a daily basis. An employee in this position reports to Public Works Director. Task Statement (s) : Note: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the types of work performed in this classification. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this position. Operates passenger vehicle according to assigned established routes and schedules; assists passengers in boarding and leaving vehicles. Monitors fare collection; issues transfers. Maintains records and logs of travel time, mileage, gas usage and passengers served. Operates or learns to operate the handicap lift mechanism in the assigned vehicle. Operates or learns to operate a two way radio unit according to department-policy and procedure. Provides general information to passengers. Takes vehicle to be serviced for repairs/preventative maintenance; cleans and washes vehicles as necessary. Performs routine daily maintenance of vehicle and safety checks; detects improper functioning mechanical systems on the assigned vehicle. Possesses working knowledge of City's geography; complies with City traffic and motor vehicle regulations. Listens, understands and follows oral and written instructions and directives; conveys information clearly and concisely. BUS DRIVER - PAGE 2 of 4 Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with supervisors, subordinates, employees and other departments/agencies; projects a positive, professional impression when dealing with the general public. Complies with all established policies/procedures of City including safety policies and procedures; reports accidents/incidents accordingly. Education and Job Related Experience: High School Diploma/GED preferred. Must be able to read and write. Must possess a current valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with a "P" endorsement and comply with all Federal Department of Transportation regulations and over 1 year up to and including three year's experience in the operation of motor vehicles, preferably transporting passengers; or any equivalent combination which meets the following minimum abilities: Minimum Reasoning classification: ability usually associated with this ~bility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to  eat with problems involvi.ng several concrete variables in or from tandard situations. Minimum Math ability usually associated with this classification: Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions; to perform arithmetic operations involving all American monetary units. Minimum Language classification: ability usually associated with this Read: Ability to use a passive vocabulary of 5-6,000 words; to read at ~ rate of 190-215 words per minute; to read adventure stories and~ comic books, looking up unfamiliar words in dictionary for meaning~ spelling and pronunciation; to read instructions for assembling model cars and airplanes. Write: Ability to prepare reports. Speak: Ability to speak clearly and distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis, correct pronunciation, variation in word order, using present, perfect and future tenses. BUS DRIVER - page 3 of 4 Traininq: Amount of training, either on-the-job or formal education, usually associated with this occupation in addition to the Reasoning, Math, and Language abilities detailed above: Over 6 months up to and including 1 year. Physical Demands: Degree of Physical Demands (Strength) usually associated with this classification: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking, climbing or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requzres exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light work. Type of Physical Demands usually associated with this classification: Reaching, Handling, Fingering, Feeling: (Reaching - Extending the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction). (Handling - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands, fingering not involved). (Fingering - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers primarily, rather than with the whole hand as in handling). (Feeling - PerCeiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by means of- receptors in skin, particularly those of finger tips). Talking, Hearing, Seeing: (Talking - Expressing or 'exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - Perceiving nature of sounds by ear). (Seeing - The ability to perceive the nature of objects by~the eye), and other physical requirements as specified by the Department of Transportation. Environmental Conditions: Environmental Conditions (Physical associated with this classification: Surroundings) usually The Worker is Subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. BUS DRIVER - PAGE 4 OF 4 Machines, Tools, Ec[uiDment, and Work Aids which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: Bus, van, Automobiles, mobile radio, manuals, calculators, ~etc. ReDortinq to Work: An emplOyee in this classification will not be allowed to work their assigned scheduled day if they report to work late one minute or more of starting time. An employee in this class calling in sick for their scheduled day of work must do so a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the start of that schedule. These time requirements are necessary to accommodate a bus transit schedule.
