Police implement Elderly at Risk Identification Program
It is not uncommon for people with Alzheimer's Disease or Dementia to wander from a safe
environment and become lost, even in familiar settings.
When that happens, it can be a life-threatening situation for the individual. It's a critical time for police
who need to know vital information about the person, particularly what he or she looks like and places
he or she may frequent.
In its ongoing effort to keep the public safe, the Boynton Beach Police Department is implementing an
Elderly at Risk ID Program for residents who have a family member with Alzheimer's Disease or
Dementia.
~ The program will help police identify these persons should they wander off from their home or
caretaker.
~ Residents are asked to complete a registration form that includes the person's height, weight, eye
-= color, vehicle used by the person or caretaker, medical conditions, medications, habits and symptoms a
=- police officer can e~pect to see. Two current photographs of the person are also needed. If recent
,C photographs are ~available, police are available to go to their home to take the picture (via
appointments with the Crime Prevention Office).
~ Residents can obtain a registration form at the Boynton Beach Police Department's Crime Prevention
~ Office, 1500 W. Gateway Blvd., Suite 180 or on our Web site, www.bbpd.org.
~ For more information, please call the Crime Prevention Officer John Huntington at 561-742-6848.
