Library Advisory Board Minutes
January 23, 2011
The Library Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chair Jeannie Taylor. All
board members were present including newly appointed alternate member Bernice Begleiter. The
Board introduced themselves and welcomed Bernice. The minutes of the December 20 I 0 meeting
were approved as distributed.
Correspondence: None.
Chair's Report: The election of Chairperson, Co-chair, and Secretary positions for 20 II was held.
Jeannie Taylor was elected Chairperson, Barbara McGee was elected as Co-Chair. and Valerie
Pleasanton was elected as Secretary.
Jeannie distributed a flyer for the Friend's Author Benefit Luncheon and encouraged board members
to purchase tickets. She also shared information about upcoming conferences of the Florida Library
Association in Orlando, and the American Library Association in New Orleans. Everyone was
encouraged to attend the events.
Unfinished Business: Library Director, Craig Clark introduced Judy Levy, new part-time Division
Head, who will be working on collection development among other duties. Judy gave the board a
brief overvievv of her library experience. The other new part-time Division Head. May Giamo. will
be introduced to the board at the February meeting.
New Business: Craig distributed for discussion and approval. a revised Library Code of Conduct
which now includes a statement notifying patrons that all bags will be searched in the event of a gate
alarm. He also advised the board of recent security issues including theft which has led to the need
to update security procedures. Budget cuts have led to less police availability at the library as well.
The board approved both the revised Code of Conduct and the various other security measures which
have been instituted.
Craig also shared statistics collected on January 25tl1 about library use. The statistics will be
aggregated with those of other libraries in the state and collectively used to help make the case for
State Aid funding.
Assistant Director Anne Watts distributed signup sheets for the Adult Reading Club program which
begins February I st. She encouraged the board to participate. She also discussed briefly a new
federal program that may help expand free online access.
Library Director's Report: Craig distributed the monthly report for December 20 10. Of particular
note was an 8~~) decrease in circulation, most likely attributed to closing during multiple long holiday
weekends. Craig also discussed upcoming vacancies due to staff leaving for other opportunities.
Finally. Craig announced that the map case purchased by the Library Quilters has been installed in
the archives room. Board members are invited to view it.
The next library board meeting is February 23, 20 II at 4:00 p.l11.
