AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH., FLORIDA,
AMENDING SECTION 9-16 OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, BY ADOPTING THE
UNIFORM COUNTYWIDE AMENDMENT TO THE 1978 EDITION
OF THE NATIONAL'ELECTRICAL CODE; PROVIDING A REPEALER
CLAUSE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS :CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the Uniform Countywide Amendment to the 1978
Edition of the National Electric Code, a copy of which is attached hereto
and by reference made a part hereof, be adopted for the City of Boynton
Beach, Florida, and that Section 9-16 of the Codified Ordinances of
the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, therefore, be amended to read as
fol 1 ows:
"Section 9-16. National Electric Code current edition, as amended, as standard.
The current edition of the National Electric Code of
the National Board of Fire Underwriters, as amended by the
Uniform Countywide Amendment to the 1978 National Electric
Code on file in the office of the City Clerk, shall be the
standard by which electrical work shall be done in the City.
All work done under this chapter shall comply with such
standards unless a different requirement appears herein."
Section 2. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repeal ed.
Section 3. That should any section or provision of this Ordinance, or
any portion thereof, be declared by a Court of competent jurisdiction to be
invalid, such decision shall not effect the remainder of this Ordinance.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its passage.

by this code .shall be maintained in good working order. The maintenance of -

Industrial Plant' Electrical ~intenance Supervisor. A person regularly em-

Electrician. ts a person ~o is engaged in the electrical trade or busi-
ness and who is qualified un '~dar the terms .~nd provisions of this code.
Elec .tric~ ~n Apprentice. Is a person .who is ~ngaged in le~-ning the el-
ectrical trade by ~x~ng ~ith aid under the su~.ervision, of. a journeyman
electric{mn %~no'holds a valid ce~-tificate of co-~petency .and ~o shall be held
respOnSible for the work of such apprentice. -- ~
J~arneyma~.Electr'ician. Is a person qualified by expe_rience and/or.erie

Maintenance Electrician. A person ~no possesses the qualifica~ons

Master Electrician. A person ~!no possesses the necessa~, qualifications,

of electrical wiring, apparatus or equipment for lig~qt, heat or p~.~_r,
by the terms and provisions of this Article.
Section 80-2 - O!IGLa~N!~7~ATIftM
80.2. (a) Electrical Inspection Division

There is hereby established a division to be called the Electrical In-
spect'ion Division, v~thin the Build~ DepOt v~.q~ch shall be in the charge of the
Official so legally designated by the local gcr~ern~ng ~ody.

80.2. (b) .Inspectors
The Dailding Official, ~,zith the approval of the Chief Appointing Authorit)~,
,may appoint such n~-mber of officers, inspectors, assistants and otb=~er emplgyees as

suspended or abandoned for a period of n~net-y (90) days after the

(2) Prior to ism,~ng the permit, the Building Official ~nd the appli-
cant may establish a max~m~ time scaedule' = for completion of logical
phases of construction under the permit. S~i~ schedule shall take
into effect historical data of the gov~_ental agency for constru- -
ction of similar struct~es within t~ ]~,~'ts of the agency. FaiI~re
of permit holder to pu~su~ construction ~ the pez~&t in accor~ce

I_n every case, a courtesy notice shall be ma~ed.- by.the Building Official-

Application for permits will be accepted only ~ contractors cuzrentty

and perform the ~rk in connection vzith the construc~ion, maintenance, altera-
tions, or repair of a single f~{ ly residence or ~o f~mi!y residence for his
own use and occupance ~nd not in~ended for sale. Su~n licensed contractor or
sole owner shall be held responsible to the Building Official for tha proper
supe~ision and conduc~ for all work covered thereof.

80.8. Violations and Penalties
Any person, firm or corporation ~R~o shall %~olate a provision of this code,

Service-entrance conductors shall be installed in accordance ~ith the
applicable requirements of this code. Ail service entrance conductors shall be in-
