Minutes 09-13-11 MINUTES OF THE SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2011 AT 9:00 A.M. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 9:03 a.m. II. Roll Call Roll call was taken. A quorum was present. III. Acceptance of Minutes of 07/12/2011 regular meeting Motion Mr. Dauta moved to approve the minutes as presented. Ms. Vicki seconded the motion that unanimously passed. 1 Meeting Minutes Safety Committee Boynton Beach, FL September 13, 2011 IV. Safety Committee Education & Training A short video entitled “Dress Safe” was viewed. The video detailed accidents happen in all types of environments with all types of equipment. Loose clothing should be kept tucked, buttoned, and fitted properly. Jewelry that could become lodged or caught in equipment should be removed. Common equipment causes as many accidents as others if safety precautions are ignored. Each year 40,000 office workers are injured on the job and more than 200 injuries result in death. Workers should dress safe and wear protective clothing when required, and that it be secured properly. Cuffs, buttons, zippers and ties should be checked. Long hair should be tied back or covered with a cap when working with any type of equipment or machinery. Chair Bobich stated last year, Public Works purchased a replacement table-top saw with a safety feature enabling the blade to retract when it comes in contact with skin. Machine guards are important and new safety features are available on equipment. V. Old Business A. Fire Drills None. B. Proud to be a Safe Worker Awards None. C. Departmental Inspections & Safety Meetings Chair Bobich continues to receive these electronically. He reminded the members Risk Management is available to help departments with items needing to be addressed. D. Incident Review Board Referrals None. E. Electrical Flame Resistant Uniforms & PPE Update – TABLED 10/12/2010 Chair Bobich worked with Ray Altman, Mike Rumpf, Tom Balfe and Warren Bazemore on several items and the changes were incorporated into the documents. Drug Free Policy Statement (HR - Pedro Escobar) This item remained on the table. G. Other None. VI. New Business A. Departmental Safety Issues None. B. Other The Fire Department will be providing the flu vaccine free to City employees in October. Emails will be sent and two or three clinics will be offered in October. The shots will be given on a first come/first serve basis. VII. Announcements A. Other Mr. Landress reminded the members the Fire Department will be holding its Bru's Room event on Wednesday. He invited all to attend and support a good cause. Chair Bobich commented he handed out the Safe Worker Award pins. Some departments were missing a few and if any department had extras to let him know so he could forward them to the proper departments. VIII.
