IV. Safety Committee Education & Training
A short video entitled “Dress Safe” was viewed. The video detailed accidents happen in
all types of environments with all types of equipment. Loose clothing should be kept
tucked, buttoned, and fitted properly. Jewelry that could become lodged or caught in
equipment should be removed. Common equipment causes as many accidents as
others if safety precautions are ignored. Each year 40,000 office workers are injured on
the job and more than 200 injuries result in death. Workers should dress safe and wear
protective clothing when required, and that it be secured properly. Cuffs, buttons,
zippers and ties should be checked. Long hair should be tied back or covered with a
cap when working with any type of equipment or machinery.
Chair Bobich stated last year, Public Works purchased a replacement table-top saw
with a safety feature enabling the blade to retract when it comes in contact with skin.
Machine guards are important and new safety features are available on equipment.
