All Board members were present except Valerie Pleasanton. The minutes of the July 27, 2011 meeting were distributed and approved. Correspondence: None. Chair's Report: Jeannie announced that the Board meeting would be shortened so the Board could watch a mandatory Code of Ethics Training Program DVD. Unfinished Business: Library Director Craig Clark advised that applications for the SEFLIN Sunshine Library card are available at the desk on the second floor. Information about this program will also be placed on the Library's website. The contract for the Overdrive eBooks System is being reviewed by the legal department. The initial cost will be $6,000. The system should be up and running by January or February. New Business: None. Library Director's Report /Statistics: The Monthly Report now includes a paragraph on the work being done by the AmeriCorps volunteer, Steve Shon. Steve indicated that he had tutored 57 students and held 200 study sessions in the four weeks the program has been available In addition, archival digitizing of Library material has continued as planned. The Board may have a demonstration of the digitizing project during the December Board meeting. Craig distributed the Fiscal Year 2010/2011 Statistics for review. In general, most months show a slight decrease in customer visits. Circulation and computer usage is slightly lower too. There were fewer programs offered due to budget cuts, but the juvenile programs showed an 8% increase in attendance. The decline in use of Library services may be due to the budget cuts in staff, programs, and materials. The information desk is no longer being manned. Teen usage is down because there is no longer a teen librarian. With the cuts in the materials budget, there are fewer choices available for the public. There are generally 1400 -1500 visitors per day. If the Library is closed or there is bad weather, attendance will be lower, and that will be reflected in the statistics. The next library board meeting is December 7, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 4:14 p.m. Laurie Sulzer, Board Member
